Metro: Last Light has just been formally announced by publisher THQ and developer 4A Games, a horror-themed first-person shooter that will follow on from the events of Metro 2033.
According to THQ, Metro: Last Light will plunge us further into the “haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow,” while delivering a “terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.”
After a follow-up to 4A Games’ Metro 2033 was mentioned last year by THQ’s Danny Bilson, a proper name has now been attached to the sequel – and it’s not Metro 2034!
Now known as Metro: Last Light, this game will serve as the second entry to the series of creepy first-person shooter/adventure games.
Following the release of the intense first-person shooter/adventure game, Metro 2033, developer 4A Games and THQ began teasing fans with mention of an upcoming downloadable content pack that would add new weapons, Achievements and a new, more realistic difficulty setting.
Since then, however, no further details have been revealed regarding this new ‘ Ranger Pack’ DLC… until today, when THQ announced a proper release date for the content.
THQ and 4A Games’ Metro 2033 released earlier this year to an overall positive reception, as gamers enjoyed the directed and realistic STALKER-esque first-person combat, mixed with genuinely creepy and horrific scenarios.
It seems as though the positive critical reception of Metro 2033 was coupled with a suitable amount of commercial success, as THQ’s Danny Bilson recently mentioned that a sequel, Metro 2034, is in the works. And it’ll be in stereoscopic 3D.
4A Games has been teasing the existence and upcoming reveal of additional content for its creepy, horrific post-apocalyptic first-person shooter, Metro 2033, and finally the development outfit has spilled some details on the official Facebook page for the game.
The upcoming downloadable content (DLC), called the ‘Ranger Pack,’ will add new weapons, Achievements and a range of new game rules in a gameplay option called ‘Ranger Mode,’ which is said to be “deadly.”
The future is a scary place. Normally you can expect the future to be one of two places. Either you find yourself in a post-apocalyptic world where everything is destroyed, people have mutated into all sort of monsters from the nuclear fallout, and weapons are the only currency worth collecting. Alternatively the future is a utopian paradise, everyone loves peace and each other, and we will all wear the same baby-suit outfit with silver boots. Until we realize that we are all under some mind control device and never really had a say about the boots to begin with. Metro 2033 falls squarely into the post-apocalyptic future category.

God of War III has released in the UK this past week to claim the top spot on Chart Track’s Software Sales chart for the region, crushing the likes of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Final Fantasy XIII ‘neath its boot.
Chart Track reminds us that this is the second time Sony Computer Entertainment has enjoyed some time at the top of the UK sales chart this year, as Heavy Rain attained the same position some three weeks ago, after Killzone 2 also managed to reach No. 1 in 2009.
Metro 2033, the anticipated post-apocalyptic shooter from THQ, releases across North America and Germany today, and to celebrate the publisher has released a new launch trailer for the game.
Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of the cloud computing online game delivery service Onlive, has posted on the official Onlive blog to reveal that on June 17th, the ambitious technology “will be available for users in the 48 contiguous United States!”
This milestone, Perlman writes, will be achieved after “almost 8 years of development, thousands of partner meetings, millions of lines of code, and an uncountable number of all-nighters,” and will not-coincidentally occur over the week of this year’s E3 games and technology expo.
“Everyone here at OnLive is just incredibly excited about this milestone,” says Perlman. “It’s the realization of a dream that we knew would be a huge undertaking, but also one that would change everything.”
THQ has released a brand new trailer for its upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter, Metro 2033.
Watch the Ghosts of the Metro trailer below to catch a glimpse of the different underground environments from the game, but prepare yourself for a few surprises along the way!
Good news for those looking forward to Metro 2033 is that the title has gone gold and is on target to meet its March release date.
Metro 2033 is the upcoming first person shooter from THQ set in post-apocalyptic Russia. The game will be available for the Xbox 360 and PC across the US and Germany on the 16th of March, with Australia following on the 18th of March and the rest of the world on the 19th of March.
Creative manager at THQ David Langeliers walks us through some truly thrilling, spooky and intense in-game footage from the upcoming first-person shooter/adventure game, Metro 2033, showing off one of the levels from the title called Black Station.
Langeliers explains that each station within the network of underground tunnels that you’ll find yourself in during Metro 2033 is separated from the next and self-governed, and Black Station just happens to be run by a group of fascist Neo-Nazis. Lovely.
The in-game footage also shows us a few different approaches that players will be able to take during Metro 2033, either fully stealth, guns-blazing or a combination of both, while also drawing attention to the different features of the game, such as the elimination of on-screen heads-up display (HUD).
Watch some amazing footage from Metro 2033 below:
Metro 2033, a new and upcoming horror-filled first-person shooter, ‘came out of nowhere’ (or ‘lumbered out of the darkness’) last year to surprise everyone with its apparent quality and unique approach to the genre – kind of a cross between STALKER and Fallout 3, but leaning more heavily towards the former than the latter if you want to make comparison.
Now the release of Metro 2033 is almost upon us and we’re being hit with a barrage of media to ensure that the Hype ‘O Meter is spinning at a nice even tilt, and after watching the latest ‘Kill or Be Killed’ trailer below, which features glimpses at new locations and ghastly enemies, anticipation should be at an all time high, for sure.
Watch below:
Metro 2033 has come along in leaps and bounds over the last few months, despite the fact that we’ve known about it for a relatively long period of time, but ever since THQ picked up the horror-filled, STALKER-esque first-person for publishing, we’ve got to see a lot more of it, which is an entirely good thing.
This has probably (Read: most definitely) lead to a release date for Metro 2033 coming about sooner rather than later (over the week of March 16th), and informative and interesting interviews discussing the game in detail, such as the two found below, where you can find out more about the world of Metro 2033, the technology running the game, and the weaponry that will help you survive.
Watch (and enjoy) below:
Metro 2033, a horror-themed first-person shooter in the same vein as STALKER and Fallout 3, is still shaping up very nicely, and from the looks of this newly released trailer, there’s much more to this post-apocalyptic creep-fest than meets the eye.
