The PS Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is little more than a month away but Konami hasn’t released much footage showing the English build in action. Thankfully the game was present at the recent PlayStation Spring Showcase event held in Toronto, Canada, where a YouTube user managed to capture nine minutes of HD gameplay footage from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is one title I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. The Blu-ray contains five of the seven main Metal Gear games released so far: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

This means that if you own the MGS HD Collection along with Metal Gear Solid (a PSOne Classic available from the PlayStation Store) and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots you’ll have all seven Metal Gear games on your PS3. What more could a Metal Gear fan ask for?!

Action RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has ousted its Japanese counterpart, Final Fantasy XIII-2, from the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this week and heads straight to No. 1 during its first week on sale.

Chart Track notes that the last brand new intellectual property to hit the top spot in the chart was Dead Island in 2011, but the last time an original RPG was No. 1 was way back in 2000 with Pokemon Red. An amazing statistic!

Although various entries in the franchise were released on PC and Xbox, games like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker remained exclusive to the PS2 and PSP respectively.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is an upcoming compilation for Xbox 360 and PS3 which includes HD remastered versions of MGS: Peace Walker, MGS2: Sons of Liberty and MGS3: Snake Eater.

We saw Peace Walker in action at E3, but the two PS2 games have not been shown in motion until now. Thankfully Konami has released a gamescom trailer which shows Kojima Productions Assistant Producer Sean Eyestone playing through the opening section of MGS3.

If you were around during the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 era you’ll remember how big the Metal Gear Solid franchise was at one point. Early trailers for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were enough to make grown men’s chests swell with emotion, and the release of the game in PAL territories in early 2002 was the catalyst which “forced” me to purchase a PS2.
