The 2010 Game Developers Conference (GDC) began on Tuesday March 9th and wrapped up on Saturday March 13th, and over these five days the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco (which played host to the event) saw 18 250 videogame industry professionals stalk the halls and corridors, a new attendance record for the annual event.

Last night the world’s best videogames and game developers were honoured with a shower of awards at the 10th annual Game Developers Choice Awards, held during the Game Developers Conference every year, the only official awards ceremony created for developers and voted on by developers.
This year’s big winner was Uncharted 2, which walked away with a total of five nods, while id Software co-founder and Technical Director John Carmack was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Event director of the Game Developers Conference Meggan Scavio said of the awards process this year:
While there are going to be plenty of highlights for both game developers and the videogame press at large to talk about at this month’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, event director Meggan Scavio has confirmed that there will be no keynotes delivered by the big three console manufacturers, Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony, in an effort to move the conference away from “announcing things” and towards “[focussing] on developers.”
This year at GDC, the biggest headline event will be a keynote delivered by industry legend and game designer Sid Meier, as opposed to any new hardware announcements by Sony or Nintendo, if Scavio can help it.
Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Scavio said:
