Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is a great over-the-top arcade fighting game. It’s also one of the most accessible fighting games I’ve played in a long time – both because the control scheme is simple and forgiving and because the characters are very well known. The only bit that’s not quite as up to scratch is the amount of content and modes: there are lots of characters, but much less than in Marvel vs. Capcom 2; there’s also not as many single player variations or online modes and features as there are in recent fighting games, which gives MvC3 a bare-bones feel.

Although, it must be said, the bones that are there – the fighting itself – are very polished indeed. I’d say wait until the inevitable Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3 release to get the full experience, but you’d be missing out on some great fun in the meantime.

Despite the release of Capcom’s mighty fighting game last week, Marvel VS Capcom 3, Activision and Treyarch were able to deftly shut down the Japanese publisher’s efforts at UK game industry domination as Call of Duty: Black Ops claimed another week at No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales chart.

[Update] Right, so the podcast is ready for listening and downloading… now! [End of Update]

This week on the El33tonline Podcast Tom, Pete and Oliver get together long enough to discuss the mighty Marvel VS Capcom 3, Hansel and Gretelbot for LittleBigPlanet 2, a few renewed PlayStation Move impressions, the announcement of rAge 2011 for South Africa, and the fact that Telltale is rebooting the King’s Quest franchise.

We also talk a little about inFamous and inFamous 2, how boring January 2011’s NPD results are, how relieved Pete is that Gran Turismo 5 has received a massive patch, how we feel about the annualisation of blockbuster game franchises, plus much more besides!

It’s all about Marvel VS Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds this week, Capcom’s latest and greatest (and extremely insane) fighting game featuring fan-favourite characters from Marvel’s range of comics, as well as Capcom’s eclectic cast of zany personalities.

Marvel’s Galactus was recently revealed to be a boss character in Capcom’s upcoming completely awesome fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 3, and with the revelation a set of official screenshots and an earth-shattering trailer have been released to showcase this behemoth in action.

I’ve got a little secret for all you fellows and fellowettes out there: Sometimes, I look at videogames and wonder what they’re all about.

Why do people make them? Why do people enjoy them? Why are developers constantly pursuing realism in virtual entertainment with gritty military shooters and tense action thrillers? Isn’t the point of a videogame to escape reality?

Then I watched these two trailers for Marvel VS Capcom 3, and it all made sense again. Where else, other than in a game, can you take control of a giant floating face, Spider-Man, an ancient fighter with demonic powers, Iron Man, a giant robot, The Hulk, and many, many more, and make them fight each other in a massive battle?!

No-where else. And thanks to Marvel VS Capcom 3, the balance is restored, and developers can make as many realistic shooters as they want. What a wonderful industry!

Ridicurageous

  • Ri-dic-u-ra-geous [ri-dik-yoo-rey-juh s]

That’s a word I’ve just invented to describe the number and range of characters that Capcom plans to shove into its upcoming fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 3. It’s also a good word to describe the ridiculous fast pace and outrageous action featured in the game. As in:

“Marvel VS Capcom 3’s character roster is ridicurageous!

Or:

“I can’t keep up with Marvel VS Capcom 3’s ridicurageous action!”

Merriam-Webster can contact me directly to discuss the inclusion of ‘Ridicurageous’ in its future products.

But! We’re not here to mince words (literally)! We’re here to find out about two new additions to Marvel VS Capcom 3’s fighter selection screen in the form of Capcom’s Akuma and Marvel’s Taskmaster, both of whom can be seen doing their ‘thing’ in action-packed character trailers below:

In an effort to cram every character known to the human race into a single videogame, Capcom has revealed two new brawlers set to make an appearance in this year’s fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

Who are these fearless warriors? Why, none other than Capcom’s own Mayor Mike Haggar, and Marvel’s Phoenix!

You can see both characters in action below thanks to the release of two trailers featuring the pair’s overtly aggressive stunts, while a blow-out of screenshots and character art ably fills in the rest:

Over the weekend, and during New York Comic-Con, Capcom revealed another four characters that are set to be included in the fighting festivities when Marvel VS Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds releases next year, and as we’ve come to expect, the choices range from ‘the obvious’ to ‘the-just-plain-weird-and-bizarre-but-we-like-it-anyway!’
