Confirming previous, viciously swirling rumours, Capcom has formally announced Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, a new fighting game that will add twelve all-new Capcom and Marvel characters to the roster, as well as eight new stages, new modes and a “refined fighting system.”
Releasing this November for a “mid range price,” Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 will include a whopping fifty characters thanks to the new additions, including much-requested personalities such as Capcom’s Strider and Firebrand, and Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Hawkeye.
To follow up on last year’s rock solid Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Marvel Entertainment and Activision Publishing have together announced a new game in the Spider-Man franchise going by the name of Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
This time, our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man will apparently be faced with his most daunting task ever: Saving Spider-Man!
Yesterday saw the introduction of four new characters to the Marvel VS Capcom 3 fighting roster in the form of Chun Li, Trish, Doctor Doom and Super-Skrull, but according to the official Marvel.com website, two more characters are waiting in the wings, ready and willing to be formally introduced to the gaming masses.
One of these characters wields an enormously powerful hammer, while the other character can’t ‘wield’ anything at all, at least with its ‘hands’ - no opposable thumbs, the poor dear.
Which Marvel and Capcom characters am I referring to?
Just last week the folks over at Marvel became very excited when the first Marvel downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet became available on PS3.
The first collection of Marvel Super Hero and Super Villain costumes included Iron Man, Thing, Mystique, Daredevil and Doctor Octopus and hit the PlayStation Network on the 6th of July along with the Marvel Level Kit.
Marvel has finally announced when fans of LittleBigPlanet and Marvel’s enormous catalogue of characters will be able to enjoy a little fusion of the properties, as a host of super hero and super villain Sackboys and Sackgirls, as well as specially themed levels, are set to invade LittleBigPlanet real soon.
It’s just been jointly announced that The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire comic book megalith Marvel Entertainment for a whopping $4 billion in a stock and cash transaction.
The acquisition, Disney says, highlights the company’s “strategic focus on quality branded content, technological innovation and international expansion to build long-term shareholder value.”
A new Marvel vs Capcom game could be in the works. According to IGN, Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel Studios, was asked if a new Marvel vs Capcom game is possible someday and he responded “Yes. And maybe sooner than you think.”
Over at the Capcom forums fans have been asking for another Marvel vs Capcom game for quite a few months. Capcom has not yet responded to the thread titled “Can we get a marvel vs capcom 3” but perhaps we will get an answer in light of this comment.
