Nintendo has released a small 3DS firmware update that needs to be downloaded before being able to access the eShop or play online. 3DS users have reported that the only visible change brought about by the new firmware is that a system update can now be performed without first having to enter a parental control pin.
There are no new entries in this week’s Media Create software chart but rather a mix of some of the most popular titles from 2011, and in the case of Wii Party and Wii Sports Resort - 2010.
The 3DS triumvirate of Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land and Monster Hunter 3G perch at the top of the chart, with Inazuma Eleven Go a distant fourth.
For a long time it was rare to see even one 3DS title on the top ten Media Create software chart. This week there are no less than five - demonstrating just how far Nintendo’s once struggling handheld has come in the last ten months.
Another Nintendo console, another Mario Kart. Ever since the SNES this has been one of the most anticipated series every time Nintendo release a new console. Why is this? Perhaps because there is only one game in the series for each console, perhaps because the quality of the series is kept very high, perhaps because it’s one of the best multiplayer titles Nintendo make. But mostly because it is fun. Like the Mario games it’s inspired by, Mario Kart is as light-hearted as gaming can get and reminds us that games are all about fun. Jesse Schell in “The Art of Game Design” proposed a definition of fun as “pleasure with surprises.” By that definition Mario Kart 7, like all the Mario Kart games before it, is above all else, fun.

It was never in doubt that Mario Kart 7 would dominate this week’s Media Create software chart. 3DS owners have been pining for quality software since the handheld’s launch and Nintendo has finally stepped up to the plate and released both Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 within a few weeks of each other.
The latest entry in Nintendo’s popular karting series sold 423 619 copies during its first four days on sale, while Super Mario 3D Land continues to sell like hotcakes with a further 73 907 copies shifted during the latest accounting period.
There have been lots of exciting things afoot this week on El33tonline, with a handful of reviews, a huge batch of new competitions and loads of great news coming down the pipe, and that’s all before mentioning this week’s events happening all over South Africa!

Following a recent conference held by Nintendo, fresh new details and media have been released for two upcoming 3DS games, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, with release dates and information on upcoming 3DS features included in the mix.
Let’s jump in, shall we?
Nintendo has renamed its two Mario 3DS titles and stamped rough release dates on both games.
Super Mario 3DS will henceforth be known as Super Mario 3D Land and will be available this November. Meanwhile Mario Kart 3DS will now be known as Mario Kart 7 and will be hitting shelves this December.
