Creat Studios and TikGames have announced that their popular PSN title Magic Ball will be renamed Magic Orbz. European PS3 gamers will be able to download a patch today, as well as a new Winter Theme pack add-on, while American gamers will have to wait until the 14th of January.

Magic Orbz will include Trophy support while the new Winter Theme add-on pack will introduce igloos, penguins, glaciers and polar bears to the demolition. The concept is one of the oldest in video gaming: move a paddle to bounce a ball around, a ball that destroys each block it hits. It’s been done many times before, probably most famously by Arkanoid, so when a new implementation of it comes out it must somehow set itself apart. Magic Ball is certainly a new take on the formula with its 3D destructible stages, and it’s an enjoyable one at that. Its downfall is its length – the content included in the game take less than three hours to complete.

Fans haven’t been able to get enough of Magic Ball since the game was released on the PlayStation Network in January. This arcade adventure game soon earned a top three spot among the top 10 best-selling titles on the PlayStation Network and has remained in the top 10 for two months.

Alawar Entertainment commissioned Creat Studios to redesign the PC version of Magic Ball for the PS3, a sound decision since over two million Magic Ball games on various platforms have been purchased to date.
