Whatever happened to MAG, that ‘massive action game’ for PlayStation 3?

El33tonline thought quite highly of the online team-based shooter, and at least one team member goes back to play now and again, but other than the occasional news of downloadable content and a patch, the game has fallen off of the proverbial radar.

So it was a little bit of a surprise when rumours began swirling regarding a follow-up to the game, a ‘MAG 2’ for lack of a better term, but now the developer behind the game has revealed that the idea of a ‘new’ MAG isn’t too far-fetched of an idea, after announcing that an enormous, feature-packed ‘MAG 2.0’ title update is on the way.

In the build up to MAG I was dubious as to the reason for the games existence. Was the point just to push the boundaries of the hardware and network with the creation of a really elaborate “tech demo” or was there more to MAG than that. The answer will be different to each person as it really depends on what you are looking for from the game. It ain’t no Gears of War or Call of Duty as you just don’t get a single player campaign to build the emotional buy in, but it certainly stands uniquely on its own and has certainly set the benchmark for massively online gaming.
