Crystal Dynamics has released a launch trailer for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light in celebration of its release on the PlayStation Network and Steam today.

While we recently learnt when Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light would become available on the PlayStation Network, the date that Ms. Croft’s latest adventure would arrive on the PC still remained unclear.
Well not anymore because Crystal Dynamics have solved the mystery by revealing that the game will be available on the PC via the Steam Network on the 28th of September for $14.99…the same day as it lands on the PlayStation Network following its period of exclusivity on the Xbox 360.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a good game.
… Nah, you don’t understand.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, a downloadable action title played from a top-down perspective, is a really good game. If you read El33tonline’s review, you’ll start to understand how good of a game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light really is.
So it’s a great relief to finally know when the game will finally become available on the PlayStation Network following its little period of exclusivity on the Xbox 360!

The savvy lass went on to star in a number of games after that, but it soon became apparent that things had started to go a little downhill for Lara when The Angel of Darkness was released to lukewarm reception.
However, when Crystal Dynamics took over development duties of Ms. Croft in 2006 they seemed to breathe new life into the series and enjoyed success with Legend, Anniversary (a remake of the original Tomb Raider) and finally Underworld. But take nothing away from Core Design, who handled development duties for the first batch of Tomb Raider titles, after all they did help to create one of the best-selling videogame series of all times and one of the most successful human videogame heroines too.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is the last of the 2010 Summer of Arcade titles on the XBLA, and it’s out now for 1200 Microsoft Points, which is about 101 Yuan.
Major Nelson has this to say: “Experience the first ever co-op action-adventure game featuring Lara Croft. Team up with a friend or go at it alone as you traverse and solve deadly traps, fight hordes of undead enemies, and collect over 60 artifacts and relics. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light offers fast-paced action and breathtaking visuals shown through an isometric view.” Both the isometric view and the co-op gameplay are firsts for the franchise.
Please note that the co-op play is currently local-only, but Square Enix assure us that online cooperative play will be “arriving shortly” as part of a free update.
We’ve been following this game with a lot of interest, so there’s lots of previous coverage for you to check out. If you like to watch or experience rather than read (and which gamers don’t?), there is a free demo available for download, or you can check out some trailers below:

In addition, it’s been revealed that Guardian of Light is a four-week timed-exclusive for the Xbox LIVE Arcade platform, meaning that the planned PS3 and PC versions of the downloadable title will only become available at a later date.
As Crystal Dynamics explains, this release schedule has been put in place in order to participate in Microsoft’s “hugely successful” Summer of Arcade promotion on Xbox LIVE:
The third annual Xbox LIVE Summer of Arcade will kick off this month, on July 21st, with the release of Playdead’s eerie and intriguing adventure platform game, Limbo, while four subsequent Xbox LIVE Arcade releases following in consecutive weeks will round out this event celebrating the joys Summer… indoors, playing on your Xbox 360.
