The Academy of Arts and Sciences recently announced its full list of nominations for this year’s Interactive Achievement Awards, with categories including ‘Game of the Year,’ ‘Outstanding Achievement in Story,’ ‘Downloadable Game of the Year’ and many more.
Unsurprisingly, Uncharted 3 and Naughty Dog lead the nominations list with a total of twelve nods across the categories, followed by Portal 2 with ten and LA Noire with nine.
The 15th annual Interactive Achievement Awards will be held during the DICE Summit this year in Las Vegas, on February 9th, and here are the hopefuls:
Rockstar has today announced that those of you who might have missed the studio’s outstanding detective adventure title LA Noire will be able to pick the game up in a new form next month, when LA Noire: The Complete Edition becomes available.
PC gamers weren’t too pleased when Rockstar Games gave them the cold shoulder last year by refusing to publish Red Dead Redemption on their platform of choice. Thankfully the publisher isn’t going to make the same mistake twice, as earlier this year they announced their intention to bring the critically acclaimed console title L.A. Noire to PC.
Sales tracking and research firm The NPD Group recently released its report on US videogame sales for the month of June 2011, revealing revenues of $1.03 billion for the industry across software, hardware and accessories categories – a ten percent drop in sales compared to June 2010 when revenues of $1.15 billion were recorded.
Although this week’s PlayStation Store update for Europe is relatively small, it gives you a great opportunity to try a few older titles with try before you buy for Dead Nation and a demo for PixelJunk Shooter 2.
You’ll also have the chance to try out a new case for LA Noire with the ‘Reefer Case’ DLC and even get your hands on the Final Fantasy IV character costumes for LittleBigPlanet 2.
Find out what other new and exciting content is now available on the European PlayStation Store below:
This week’s Media Create software chart is a departure from the Japanese dominated list we’ve grown accustomed to in the past. Four out of the top five titles were developed by Western studios, with L.A. Noire stepping all over inFamous 2 to cross the finish line in first place.
It’s interesting to note that both games were dished out a CERO Z rating in Japan, which is equivalent to an AO (Adults Only) rating in North America. The difference lies in that CERO Z games can be sold in regular game outlets while AO titles are only available through select avenues.
This week’s U.S. PlayStation Store update is chock-a-block with discounted content as well as a slew of new add-ons from some of the most popular games around.
The “Summer Sale” lasts until 19 July and boasts savings of up to 50% on some of the PSN’s best titles. If you’ve been holding out on games like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX or Scott Pilgrim because you deemed them too expensive, now is the perfect time to pick them up on the cheap.
It’s been another incredibly busy week here at El33tonline, not only because of a good, constant stream of videogame news, a few new reviews, an in-depth preview, and a host of competitions, but we also announced our attendance at rAge this year!
That’s right! We’ll be at booth 28 of rAge 2011 in Johannesburg, taking place at the Coca-Cola Dome from September 30th through October 2nd - if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by to take part in a few activities, giveaways and competitions, but if you won’t be there, we’ve got you covered.
All of this excitement and content tends to wear a person out, you know? So the team at El33tonline will be relaxing in the only way we know how - by playing games! Find out what members of the team will be busy with this weekend, and be sure to let us know what you’re playing, too:
Rockstar Games has just released a quick (but very intense) trailer for LA Noire’s next downloadable case, ‘Reefer Madness,’ where Detective Cole Phelps and Vice desk partner Roy Earle will be tasked with taking down “one of the city’s biggest narcotics rings.”
Prepare yourself:
We’ve been predicting it for a while now following the game’s dominant showing earlier this year, but now that there’s little to no resistance from brand new triple-A games, Zumba Fitness is free to reign over Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing.
For the third week in a row (and the sixth week, total), the little fitness game that could has once again topped the UK sales chart, ahead of heavy hitters like LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean and LA Noire.
There’s no stopping Zumba Fitness!
The game has once again claimed the No. 1 spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this week, with a massive 33% increase in sales over the week previous.
Interestingly, Chart Track says that this past week represents the second highest sales week for Zumba Fitness, and outsold games appearing in the next three positions combined. Chart Track goes on to explain that the game’s best sales week earlier this year only allowed it to reach No. 2 on the chart, after Crysis 2.
What are those next three games that Zumba Fitness managed to outstrip in terms of unit sales this week?
Do you consider yourself a super sleuth? Do you think that you would do well as a real life detective, solving real, grizzly and puzzling crimes?
To find out, we put your crime-solving abilities to the test with El33tonline and Megarom’s LA Noire competition, and for a chance to win a PlayStation 3 copy of Rockstar and Team Bondi’s superb crime thriller, we asked you to hunt around our previous coverage of the game to find two clues.
The clues may not have been able to help anyone solve a crime, but they could be used to solve our competition!
So the only piece of the puzzle left to figure out is… who won the LA Noire prize?
Even though this week was pretty quiet on the news front, the industry still managed to keep us busy and on our toes with new trailers, screenshots and interesting happenings.
This week is chock a block with new game releases, great news for the El33t team! So we’ll be settling back and getting some quality time with a few new titles - look out for those reviews soon!
“The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things…”
Rockstar Games has just announced that the studio’s LA Noire will see a release on PC this ‘Fall’ with key new features.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who regularly checks the “Store” section of L.A. Noire to see if the remaining two cases listed (Nicholson Electroplating and Reefer Madness) are available yet. All it says next to them is “coming soon” so I thought it was high time to unearth their respective release dates.
