There’s something relaxing about Kirby games. They’re slower paced platforming games with less technical difficulty and more exploration, and they’re usually ridiculously cute, so it’s easy to consider them to be aimed at a young audience. Kirby’s Epic Yarn is no different; this is a perfect game for young people. But in the tradition of Pixar movies – it’s so good it’s also great for adults.

With all of the excitement surrounding the impending launch of Nintendo’s next handheld, the 3DS, you’d half expect the publishing giant to forget about it’s current consoles and upcoming slate of titles scheduled for release on those machines, but this is definitely not the case.
Nintendo UK has just released quite a comprehensive list of upcoming titles set for release on both the Wii and DS, accompanied by exact dates and vague windows just to ensure that we know that they know they definitely still care:
Despite the fact that Kirby’s latest yarn-filled adventure is yet to become available in EMEA territories, a brand new Kirby game was revealed during a Nintendo investor meeting late last week, announced by none other than company president Satoru Iwata himself:
At gamescom 2010, El33tonline had the chance to get hands-on time with Kirby’s Epic Yarn, the latest (action?) platform game starring that lovable ball of pink stuff… but we weren’t quite prepared for how amazing this game was going to be, as evidenced by this sickly sweet preview of the game!
Problem is, Kirby’s Epic Yarn hasn’t yet officially released in most other parts of the world (like, say, Europe, the UK and South Africa), having only been launched in Japan and North America for the Wii. We have to wait!
The latest Media Create figures are out and show that Pokemon continues to dominate despite a number of new entries into the chart this week.
Pokemon Black/White (as a combined title) remains in the top spot, selling 168 541 copies for the week ending 17th of October, which pushes its life-to-date sales across the 4 million sales mark.
El33tonline was fortunate enough to attend gamescom 2010 in Cologne, Germany last month. We got to spend some amazing hands-on time with a vast number of awesome games and chat to their developers. Certainly the highlight was meeting some of the industry’s icons.
All in all it was an amazing experience that enabled us to share a wealth of information with you, our readers. We hope to be back next year to continue bringing unique quality content to the South African gaming community.
Here is a round-up of our hottest coverage from the event:
Nintendo has released a batch of new videos for their upcoming 2D platformer, Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
Prepare to indulge yourself in a Japanese introduction to the story, platforming and combat gameplay as well as seeing Kirby transform into a Tank and a Fire Truck.
Nintendo has released a new trailer for Kirby’s Epic Yarn and it’s looking mighty fine. The 2D platformer will be available for the Wii across North America on the 17th of October, marking Kirby’s first return to the console since the N64.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn is set in a world of cloth and textiles, with Kirby able to take on various forms (including a car, submarine and robotic tank) as he peels back curtains, pulls buttons and generally explores the interactive world to discover hidden areas and gems. Even better news is that the game features two player co-op so you can enjoy it with a friend.
Here’s a guarantee: The instant you start playing Kirby’s Epic Yarn, your face will break out into uncontrollable smiling fits, simply because of the charming, delightful whimsy of it all.
It’s guaranteed that rumbles of laughter and chortles will erupt out of your mouth the split-second your little on-screen Kirby character starts jumping and lassoing its way around the wonderful woollen world of the game, while interacting with enemies, zips and buttons in the environment.
These irrepressible biological events will occur, guaranteed… that is, unless you’re a heartless monster. Or a robot. You’re not a robot, are you?
