Confirmation reports doing the rounds today indicate that all employees of 38 Studios and developer Big Huge Games have been let go following a chaotic series of events and an expensive period of development.
While the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning developer hasn’t yet sent out a formal announcement, and the studios haven’t been closed outright, employees of both 38 and Big Huge have taken to Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets to tell everybody about their recent departures from the studios.
A little while ago we brought you news of a second set of expansion content due for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning that would add an entire new city, new enemies and new items to the game to freshen up the adventure over and above the vanilla experience, following the release of the first content pack, The Legend of Dead Kel.
The second DLC pack, Teeth of Naros, releases starting April 17th on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 for 800 MS Points and $9.99 (where applicable), and you can catch glimpses of your challenges, foes and the new city in mysterious and wonderful screenshots and a trailer:
Just as you were finishing up the new challenges set before you in ’ The Legend of Dead Kel,’ a new adventure appears on the horizon: Yes, EA and 38 Studios have today announced a second expansion to the massive world seen in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning!
Titled ‘Teeth of Naros,’ this next addition to the epic RPG universe is said to introduce a new and mysterious race as well as a brand new city and, of course, new adventures.
First announced at the very end of February, the downloadable content for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning known as ‘The Legend of Dead Kel’ has received its debut trailer, telling pirate-themed tales of adventure through lands at the edge of Frostbreak Sea.
There, matey, will you bear witness to creatures and giants the likes of which you’ve never been tempted to imagine in your wildest dreamings.
What else lies on the mysterious isle of mist and stone? See for yourself…
One thing that stood out for us in our recent Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning competition was your passion for the game and admiration of the contributors, R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane or Ken Rolston, who made it the amazing title that it is.
Thanks to EA South Africa we had three copies of the game to giveaway, one on each platform. Today we’re revealing the winners…
I love me a good action RPG. When the slaughter is more frequent than the dungeon crawling, the spells cast more beautiful than a night sky and the monsters as varied as a box of Smarties, then I am at my happiest. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is all of this and more! It is the game Diablo III will have to beat!

Action RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has ousted its Japanese counterpart, Final Fantasy XIII-2, from the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this week and heads straight to No. 1 during its first week on sale.
Chart Track notes that the last brand new intellectual property to hit the top spot in the chart was Dead Island in 2011, but the last time an original RPG was No. 1 was way back in 2000 with Pokemon Red. An amazing statistic!
The long-awaited launch of the epic action RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, has finally become a reality and gamers in the US are able to get their hands on Big Huge Games’ title today across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Those of us in European territories will have to wait until later this week, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all sit down and enjoy this hard-hitting launch trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, together:
After many years in development, Big Huge Games, 38 Studios and EA are ready to release Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning into the world, and South African gamers will get to experience the epic, wondrous universe of Amalur starting February 10th, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
El33tonline and EA South Africa are giving you the chance to win Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but you’ll need to answer a question that may reveal what you value most in a videogame…
Make your way to El33tonline’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Competition page to enter - you might just discover something about yourself in the process!
The launch of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is just around the corner and fans of epic RPG adventures will only have to wait until February 7th (in the US) and February 10th (everywhere else) to embark on new quests, discover new lands and defeat new (and very ugly) creatures in EA and Big Huge Games’ upcoming title.
The rocking launch trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is already out, however, highlighting the game’s focus on ultimate choice, combat and incredible visuals.
We challenge you not to be impressed:
“Say young one - reckon you be a Hero worth your weight in gold? Do your boots tremble with fear, or quiver with excitement, when you think of grand old adventures through the lands of Amalur?
We can all agree that a game’s sound and music can immeasurably improve any given title and both elements are able to ratchet up the intensity and atmosphere of what would otherwise be a mediocre experience.
The importance of sound and music in a game, then, cannot be underestimated and the developers at Big Huge Games are very aware that the audio of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is another chance to set this action RPG apart from similar games.
The buzz surrounding Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has hit incredible heights recently, and not just because of the recently released demo, either!
When big names collaborate it often turns out to be more hype than it’s worth, but when one of the world’s best comic book artists, Todd McFarlane, comes together with one of the world’s best fantasy writers in the form of R.A. Salvatore and one of the world’s best RPG game designers, Ken Rolston (the man behind The Elder Scrolls III and IV), then you better sit up and take notice.
The result of this amazing get-together is more than just a few embarrassing photos on Facebook. These guys have all contributed their strongest work to make the best game they can possibly make.
This game is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
