US sales analyst firm The NPD Group has released its latest report on the state of the country’s videogame industry with data on sales for the month of April 2012, revealing a worrying 32% drop in sales across hardware, software and accessory categories.
Revenue generated in the US videogame industry during the reporting period dropped from $930.9 million in April 2011 to $630.4 million this year, mostly due to a lack of new game releases and an early Easter period, as Prototype 2 and Xbox 360 topped their respective categories.
Prototype 2 brutalised the competition this past week by becoming the latest top-selling game on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing, coming out ahead of FIFA Street, FIFA 12 and Mass Effect 3.
Surprisingly, this is Activision Publishing’s first No. 1 on Chart Track’s all formats sales chart and despite launching on a Tuesday around the world, it still doesn’t match the first week sales performance of the original Prototype, when that game was released in June 2009.
UK sales tracking firm Chart Track says that only one new game entered its weekly list of Top 40 best-selling games in the region this past week. This single debut entry to the sales chart also happened to become the UK’s latest No. 1 game on the listing.
That game’s name? The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition.
Despite a bit of a slip last week as Kinect Star Wars claimed No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software sales listing, FIFA Street (sales down 22%) has re-entered that lofty position, giving the title four (non-consecutive) weeks at the top of the chart.
The Challenge:
Write us a poem styled in the speech pattern of Yoda, the greatest little green Jedi Master the Star Wars universe has ever seen.
The Prizes:
A Kinect Star Wars console bundle for first place and a Kinect Star Wars mug and keyring for the runner-up.
The Contestants:
Sparks17 and Scratch17.
To celebrate the release of Kinect Star Wars this month, Xbox 360 South Africa decided it would be a great idea to give away a limited edition Xbox 360 console, custom designed to suit the Star Wars universe.
Sporting an R2-D2 Xbox 360 case, a shiny C-3PO controller and a slick white Kinect device, this console bundle is what fans’ dreams are made of!
To stand a chance of winning the prize and to become one of two finalists in the contest, we asked you to send in a poem styled in the form of ‘Yoda speak’ - a piece of poetic text that wouldn’t sound out of place being recited by our favourite green Jedi Master.
The quality of the entries was astounding and choosing our finalist in the competition was one of the most difficult deliberation tasks we’ve ever been faced with here at El33tonline - everyone can be extremely proud of their entries but our four-person panel of judges eventually had to choose one name.
As you’re now no doubt aware, Kinect Star Wars for Xbox 360 and Kinect is now readily available in South Africa and around the world, complete with five motion-based games to try which including chances to crush villagers as a mighty rancor, duel Jedi Masters with Lightsabers, speed through canyons in a podracer, and more.
With the release of Kinect Star Wars comes the chance to pick up a Limited Edition Xbox 360 console, styled after everybody’s favourite service droid, R2-D2, with a C-3PO themed controller and white Kinect device to match - truly impressive.
But what if we told you that you have the chance to win this console bundle, as well as Kinect Star Wars, thanks to an on-going competition with El33tonline and Xbox 360 South Africa? What if we told you that you only have until the end of March 5th (tomorrow!) to enter this contest?
What would you say?
