A demo for the Kinect title Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is now available for Gold members to download from Xbox LIVE. Weighing in at 1.01GB, the demo will give you a chance to commandeer one of the game’s signature Vertical Tanks and sample its innovative mix of traditional and motion-based controls.
Microsoft is currently testing a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 on Xbox 360, according to sources close to The Verge. The Xbox 360 is the only current generation console that doesn’t come equipped with a web browser, despite its advanced Bing search functionality that was introduced in the last major firmware update.
The existence and availability of a $99 Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle was rumoured last week but Microsoft has made the deal official by announcing it on the website of its online store.
$99 for a brand new 4GB Xbox 360 and a Kinect device? Sounds like a great deal, right? Maybe in the future…
Let’s take a look at the deal and its implications:
We made up that last part, but only because there’s not a whole lot of other information to go on with Bethesda’s latest Skyrim announcement.
Behold, artwork for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard, the very first add-on downloadable content for Bethesda’s enormous 2011 action RPG:
Which is more important to you?
… Let’s start over!
Earlier this month, Bethesda announced that Kinect voice command support would be added to the Xbox 360 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, allowing gamers to not only initiate the all-important ‘Dragon Shouts’ by, well, shouting the ancient language themselves, but also help us navigate menus and control AI helpers, using nothing but our own voices.
‘Quick Save’ and ‘Quick Load’ commands are on the way, too.
This functionality arrives tomorrow, but so does the very first news of Skyrim’s long-awaited downloadable add-on content. The official Elder Scrolls Twitter account posted today, April 30th:
It is 2012, and there is time to Kamehameha!
News escaped to the safe confines of the internet last week regarding Namco Bandai’s upcoming motion-controlled game, Dragon Ball Z for Kinect, but more recently the debut trailer for the game, along with a brand new batch of screenshots, have come along for the Super Saiyan party.
If you can wade through the powerful waja in the demonstration video, then flip through the screenshots for Dragon Ball Z for Kinect and find out many more details, all below:
The Challenge:
Write us a poem styled in the speech pattern of Yoda, the greatest little green Jedi Master the Star Wars universe has ever seen.
The Prizes:
A Kinect Star Wars console bundle for first place and a Kinect Star Wars mug and keyring for the runner-up.
The Contestants:
Sparks17 and Scratch17.
You may not have asked for the functionality, but you’ve probably thought about how cool (or ‘cool’) it would be to perform a Dragon Shout in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by actually saying the words yourself and seeing the action taking place in game… and very soon, this will be a reality!
To celebrate the release of Kinect Star Wars this month, Xbox 360 South Africa decided it would be a great idea to give away a limited edition Xbox 360 console, custom designed to suit the Star Wars universe.
Sporting an R2-D2 Xbox 360 case, a shiny C-3PO controller and a slick white Kinect device, this console bundle is what fans’ dreams are made of!
To stand a chance of winning the prize and to become one of two finalists in the contest, we asked you to send in a poem styled in the form of ‘Yoda speak’ - a piece of poetic text that wouldn’t sound out of place being recited by our favourite green Jedi Master.
The quality of the entries was astounding and choosing our finalist in the competition was one of the most difficult deliberation tasks we’ve ever been faced with here at El33tonline - everyone can be extremely proud of their entries but our four-person panel of judges eventually had to choose one name.
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor was one of the games on display at last week’s Capcom Captivate event held in Rome. It definitely had the cool factor going for it because of the military dressed demonstrator, that and no one can deny that tanks are just plain awesome! Watching from the sidelines at first, it sure looked liked everyone was having fun so I was eager to step in and learn the finer points of driving a tank.

As you’re now no doubt aware, Kinect Star Wars for Xbox 360 and Kinect is now readily available in South Africa and around the world, complete with five motion-based games to try which including chances to crush villagers as a mighty rancor, duel Jedi Masters with Lightsabers, speed through canyons in a podracer, and more.
With the release of Kinect Star Wars comes the chance to pick up a Limited Edition Xbox 360 console, styled after everybody’s favourite service droid, R2-D2, with a C-3PO themed controller and white Kinect device to match - truly impressive.
But what if we told you that you have the chance to win this console bundle, as well as Kinect Star Wars, thanks to an on-going competition with El33tonline and Xbox 360 South Africa? What if we told you that you only have until the end of March 5th (tomorrow!) to enter this contest?
What would you say?
Hush now. Don’t say a word. We don’t need to use Jedi mind tricks to know that you want to find out where to enter this competition…
You want to enter this Kinect Star Wars Xbox 360 Competition.
Don’t you?
The first two Steel Battalion titles were released for the original Xbox and utilised a unique (and expensive) controller that featured 2 joysticks, 3 pedals and 40 buttons. Thankfully Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor dispenses with the cockpit controller of old and instead you’ll use a combination of Kinect and the Xbox 360 controller to operate your Vertical Tank - a fictional bipedal weapon of war with fairly low-tech armaments.
Wannabe Jedi Masters and those who seek to discover the secrets of The Force are now one step closer to their dreams of going on high adventures with their favourite characters of all time, because Kinect Star Wars for Xbox 360 and Kinect is now available in South Africa and the rest of the world!
We’re still waiting to hear from Xbox 360 representatives in Alpha Centauri, so galaxy-wide availability is still unknown.
Kinect for Xbox 360 has been a runaway success since its launch in November 2010, selling in excess of 18 million units so far. Kinect may have started off as a videogame peripheral but it’s become increasingly clear that the hands-free device has multiple commercial and consumer applications as well.
