Guerrilla Games has announced that Napalm & Cordite, the new downloadable content pack for Killzone 2, will be available in the PlayStation Store on the 23rd of July.
Napalm & Cordite contains two new multiplayer maps, Suljeva Cliffside (set on rocky outskirts of the Suljeva mining village) and Arctower Landing (revisits the Arctower defense posts of Blood Meridian), as well as two new weapons that were previously only accessible in the single player campaign, Napalm: The VC1 Flamethrower and Cordite: The Boltgun 4400.
According to Guerrilla Games, “both of these weapons radically alter the Killzone 2 multiplayer dynamic, delivering an experience that’s as fresh as it is intense,” promising to deliver “an explosive cocktail.” See the new maps and new weapons in action in an explosive trailer below. Full descriptions of Napalm and Cordite follow.
Announced at the end of last week, producer over at Killzone developer Guerrilla Studios revealed that a new patch for Killzone 2, labelled 1.28, would be releasing today at 8AM (Greenwich Mean Time), which is notably the 10th such update that the developers have released for the game.
While the patch is ostensibly to get Killzone 2 ready for an upcoming downloadable content (DLC) release, “Napalm & Cordite,” there are also a host of new features, bug fixes and exploit patches in the new Killzone 2 update.
Have a look at a list of these additions to Killzone 2 below:

The US PlayStation Blog has posted an interview with Guerrilla Games’ lead multiplayer designer, Eric Boltjes, to learn more about Killzone 2’s 1.27 patch releasing today.
Over the course of the interview, we find out about the latest additions to the game, such as the new ‘High Precision’ controller option, balancing tweaks and more. First of all, Eric runs us through the highlights of the Killzone 2 1.27 patch:
It was announced a little earlier that a second map pack for Killzone 2, entitled Flash and Thunder, is on the way, heading out this June.
Accompanying the announcement is a trailer that shows off the two classic maps from the original Killzone to be included in the map pack, namely Beach Head and Southern Hills. Watch below:
Sony has announced that new downloadable content for Killzone 2 will be arriving in June.
Titled the Flash and Thunder Pack, the second downloadable map pack will include Beach Head and Southern Hills, two original Killzone maps that have been remade for the PS3.
Hit the jump for more details about the two new maps:
If you have a look at the Killzone.com leaderboards, an interesting statistic will be revealed – Killzone 2 has reached the ‘one million players online’ milestone, which any self-respecting online game needs to achieve to remain self-respecting.
While those numbers are impressive, who knows what will happen after the promised downloadable content (DLC) for Killzone 2, entitled Steel and Titanium, releases later today. Will those numbers take a sharp spike, or will it continue largely unaffected?
While you wait for the DLC to hit, why don’t you have a look at a bunch of videos from the multiplayer add-on over here.
In a post on the US PlayStation Blog, it’s been announced that the upcoming Killzone 2 downloadable content (DLC), Steel and Titanium, which features two new multiplayer maps, will be going for $5.99 when it releases on the PlayStation Store on April 30th.
Also, depending on the time you read this, the next patch for Killzone 2 (creatively named ‘Patch 1.24’) would have been released, promised to have gone live on April 22nd at 8am GMT. What’s in the patch? By the size of the list, the question should be what isn’t in the patch.
Other than a few dozen fixes and updates, the patch will make way for Japanese gamers who are only getting the game in their territory today, while also adding support for the abovementioned DLC. Head on down below to read the full mammoth list of additions made possible by ‘Patch 1.24’:
Sony has announced that Killzone 2 has sold over 1 million copies worldwide.
The publisher touted the sales figures in its response to the March NPD results. “With more than 1 million copies sold worldwide and a truly ‘only on PlayStation’ experience, the hit game has garnered the biggest initial success at retail of any first-party PS3 title to date, and will continue to drive incentive for hardware sales throughout the year.”
While a bit of confusion has been swirling around the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) for Killzone 2, entitled Steel and Titanium, Sony Public Relations Manager, Alex Armour (cool name) has posted on the US PlayStation Blog to try and sort out the mess.
First and foremost, Steel and Titanium will not be a free DLC download, although the price is still to be determined. Also, in what Armour calls the “first DLC pack” (which logically means there will be a second), you’ll be getting two new multiplayer maps, Wasteland Bullet and Vekta Cruiser, explained thus:
“The first map in the pack is Wasteland Bullet, and the action will take place on the bullet train that transports goods and troops between Pyrrhus and the Wasteland. The game is a frenzied firefight to wrestle control of the train from the enemy and into the hands of your faction.
“With the train moving at full speed, players will need to remain aware of the immediate environment as well as enemies – hitting an overhead obstacle at this speed will mean instant death.”
A video below shows some great in-game action from Wasteland Bullet:
