Following the game’s unfortunate delay, were you worried that Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 5 wouldn’t be released in 2010, and would instead be pushed into 2011? Us too…
… until we caught news that the next racing simulation masterpiece has gone ‘gold’ (i.e. is fully complete) and is currently in production. Answering a question at the recent SEMA automotive trade event, Polyphony head Kazunori Yamauchi told consumer site Jalopnik:
Gran Turismo fans have by now no doubt heard of the release delay for the latest iteration of the realistic racing sim series, Gran Turismo 5.
It’s news that, while unwelcome, is certainly not unexpected. We’ve been waiting for the release of Gran Turismo 5 since its unveiling four years ago, and during that period we’ve heard many release dates and windows announced for the game, all of which have come and gone without a single physical copy hitting retailers.
But a delay so close to the final release date of November 2nd and 3rd around the world? Maybe that is a little unexpected after all.
In an interview with AutoWeek during the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas this past week, Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that his latest project, the highly anticipated racing simulator Gran Turismo 5, has cost an approximate $60 million to develop – a total expenditure that he believes isn’t all that much:
