There was never really any doubt, but it’s been announced that South Africa’s annual rAge game and technology expo will return in 2012, this time taking place solely in the month of October.
It’s always nice to get confirmation on these things.
One of the most anticipated titles of 2012 has finally hit South African shores in the form of Prototype 2, and to celebrate the release of this sequel to the 2009 action game, a large and lively group of gamers flooded the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosebank to attend an exciting launch party, co-hosted by JHBGamers, 2upGamers and Megarom.

And that’s a wrap from us for now - here’s a message from Lisa:
“Thanks to Ster Kinekor for an awesome PS Vita launch event, definitely a night to remember, and a goodie bag too! #spoilt”
We’ll be bringing you a full report on South Africa’s PS Vita launch event a little later this week, but we’ll also be celebrating the release of Sony’s handheld tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week as we’re expecting tons of new information and exciting developments!
Look forward to it!
For South African gamers, 2012 was kicked off with a series of awesome gaming events spread out across the country. Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town all got in on the act and thanks to the efforts of the organisers, these cities all played host to wonderful gatherings of gamers.
El33tonline undertook a mission to attend four separate meet-ups taking place across these three cities and we’re pleased to say that our quest was a complete success!
Here’s our round-up of El33tonline’s coverage of these events:
El33tonline wasn’t the only crew touring gaming events in South Africa during the week of January 16th, as EA South Africa and a very special guest all the way from Australia were also making the rounds to attend gatherings of gamers in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
EA South Africa’s Ralph Spinks and Bianca McFadyen, along with EA Australia’s Brad Pidgeon, recently visited a number of gaming events in the country to meet with the gamers of Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as to extend EA’s message of community to gamers.
In a continued effort to unite the gamers of Johannesburg and bring them all together under one roof, JHBGamers hosted another fantastic event this past week on January 18th at TSG4Ways, a great restaurant that just so happens to house a balcony area with space to allow roughly 60 people (or ‘gamers’) to mingle, chat and play some of the latest EA games.
There was also room enough for a variety of highly entertaining presentations to take place as JHBGamers organiser Jarrod Lane, El33tonline’s Lisa and EA’s Brad Pidgeon (all the way from Australia) stepped up to the plate to deliver interesting talks on their work, as well as their future endeavours.
Three cities visited. Thousands of kilometres travelled. Almost 200 gamers seen and met. One country. Not a lot of sleep.
This was El33tonline’s South African Gaming Tour, where we were on a mission to attend four separate gaming events taking place in the space of a single week across the country, all in an effort to meet with our fellow gamers, spread the word of El33tonline and dish out awesome prizes.
Mission accomplished.
If you’re on the fence about attending this week’s South African gaming events in Johannesburg and Cape Town, let El33tonline and Afrihost give you something more to think about!
El33tonline has once again partnered with South African ADSL service provider and ISP of the Year for 2011, Afrihost, to bring the company’s signature ‘Pure Internet Joy’ to gamers at both 2upGamers’ Third Encounter and JHBGamers’ EA South Africa Community Meet-up.

Come join the exciting action at the GroundZero LAN at the end of the month, hosted in the south of Johannesburg!
Members of El33tonline got together with the gamers of the fair city of Durban this past weekend, and it was awesome to once again put faces to names (and online nicks) and share opinions and online war stories - we’ll be posting our report of the event with photos soon!
The latest DBNGamers’ meet-up was but part one of this week’s line-up of gaming festivities in South Africa, with events in Johannesburg and Cape Town taking place on Wednesday and Friday respectively, while El33tonline’s online gaming evenings will ably fill in the blanks.
What do you need 7 days, 6 flights, 2 car hires as well as plenty of pizza and cream soda to achieve? The answer, of course, is three gamers meetups across South Africa.
JHBGamers will be holding their first gamers meet-up of 2012 next week. EA South Africa will be there, along with special guest EA community manager Brad Pidgeon from Australia, so make sure you don’t miss out on this one!
There’s a fair bit of exciting stuff happening both online and in regions of South Africa starting today and continuing on into the weekend with meet-ups, LAN games and free Xbox LIVE, so let’s have a quick look at what activities you can take part in over the next few days:
2upGamers’ Second Wave in Cape Town may have come and gone, the meet-up of DBNGamers in Durban has passed and Link may have already found love at the Finding Zelda party in Johannesburg this past Saturday, but do you still have a hankering for some awesome gaming events in your area? Want to meet up with like-minded people in person and online?
Then we’ve got some news for you!
Just a quick reminder for our Durban readers that there will be a get-together for gamers starting at 14:00 tomorrow, December 3rd, at Zack’s at Whilson’s Wharf!
You can find the event details and a map at the DBNGamers’ Facebook page over here - be sure to ‘Like’ the page and confirm your attendance if you’re keen to join in!
I’m going to be there along with a few other El33tonline friends, so we hope to see you there, too!
We’ll be bringing you news and details of more gaming events next week in Durban and Johannesburg, and if you’re in Cape Town and you’ve already signed up for 2upGamers’ Second Wave tonight, don’t miss the chance to speak with Lisa and Wayne from El33tonline!
