Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has posted three new videos to the Soul Sacrifice website that collectively account for 34 minutes of the presentation that was held in Tokyo last Thursday. The videos feature English interpretation of the various speakers who took to the stage during the presentation - a sure sign that Sony intends to release Soul Sacrifice outside of Japan at some point.
While Sony has dropped a couple of teasers for Soul Sacrifice during the last few weeks, the game’s full unveiling took place today at a press conference held in central Tokyo. Many people had speculated that this PS Vita exclusive would be tied to Demon’s Souls due to SCE Japan Studio’s involvement in the project but it turns out that this is not the case. In fact Soul Sacrifice is the brainchild of Mega Man co-creator Keiji Inafune and is being developed by Marvelous AQL.
Last month Sony took out a six-page advert in Japanese magazine Famitsu to introduce gamers to its next PS Vita exclusive - Soul Sacrifice. The game is being worked on by Gravity Rush developer SCE Japan Studio and appears to be an action-orientated affair featuring a host of hideous monsters.
The past month has been a quiet time for the PS Vita with no real new releases to speak of. Thankfully the handheld’s release schedule looks a tad healthier for May and June, with games like Mortal Kombat, Resistance: Burning Skies and Gravity Rush all set to make an appearance during this period.
During the PSone era RPGs that came on multiple discs were treated with great reverence by gamers looking for a lengthy adventure to embark on. The Legend of Dragoon spanned four discs and certainly lived up to the assumption that it would provide dozens of hours of entertainment. This mammoth RPG took Sony Computer Inc. over three years to develop and features some of the most detailed pre-rendered backgrounds and lavish cut-scenes of the PSone era.
Gravity Rush has been in development for four years, making it one of the most ambitious and expensive PS Vita projects announced so far. Shortly after development on the game began, Japan Studio presented a short concept movie internally at Sony Computer Entertainment for a project with the working title “Gravité” - French for ‘gravity’.
Gravity Rush has received rave reviews since its Japanese debut last month so PS Vita owners are understandably hyped for its worldwide release in June. This open-world action-adventure stars a young female protagonist called Kat and features a unique art style and gravity-shifting gameplay mechanics that make great use of the Vita’s motion control functionality.
Gravity Rush (known as Gravity Daze in Japan) is the latest brainchild of Silent Hill creator Keiichirō Toyama. The game features an innovative gravity-shifting mechanic which is essential for both combat and navigation.
