Fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series have had plenty to keep themselves busy over the past few months thanks to the release of Sonic Generations in November followed shortly by Sonic CD. The next highlight on the Sonic release schedule is Sonic 4: Episode II - a co-op side-scroller featuring Sonic and Tails as they take the fight to Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic on Little Planet.
If you hadn’t heard by now, the latest edition of the world-conquering physics-based puzzle game series, Angry Birds, launched around the world across iOS, Android, PC and Mac devices today, while a host of planned merchandise was due for arrival, too.
Development studio Rovio has formally announced Angry Birds: Space, the next all-new entry to the company’s world-dominating puzzle game about catapulting birds at pigs.
If the first batch of Sonic 4: Episode II screenshots wasn’t enough to get you excited for its upcoming release, why not feast your eyes on the debut gameplay trailer for this splendiferous speedfest?
Is there really space on this Earth for more Angry Birds? Haven’t we reached a saturation point yet with multiple versions of the fowl-flinging game already available across mobile platforms, PC and Facebook?
It seems not, because developer Rovio has announced plans (or more accurately, is teasing plans) to bring another incarnation of the addictive puzzle game to the world in the form of Angry Birds: Space.
One of the most innovative titles to be released during the last couple of years is Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective for the DS. This award-winning adventure game is the brainchild of Shu Takumi - the creator of the Ace Attorney series, and is now available to download from iTunes as a “free” app.
The Ace Attorney series is one of Capcom’s most comical and downright entertaining properties of the modern era. The past ten years have seen four titles in the main series being released, with 2007’s Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney being the franchise’s last numbered entry (the Japanese title was ‘Gyakuten Saiban 4’ - Turnabout Trial 4).
Sega has been bitten by the holiday spirit bug and is offering some very nice discounts on select PlayStation Network, iOS and Xbox LIVE Arcade games for the holiday period.
Holy cow! Did you know about this? Why didn’t anyone say anything?! The Excellent Game Psychonauts (just ‘Psychonauts’ to its friends) is now available on the Mac!
Not only that, but Double Fine’s masterful action platform game has received an update for the Steam version of the game, while a new “companion iOS app” is now available via the App Store. What’s included in the Steam update? A “slightly modified” version of the infamous Meat Circus level, amongst others.
This is a great day, everybody.
Today Bethesda made the iOS variant of RAGE free for one week to express their gratitude for reaching 100 000 fans on Facebook. The first-person rail shooter usually costs $2 on the App Store.
The game is available for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, with the regular version sapping up 540 MB of your bandwidth and the HD variant 747 MB.
The last few years have seen thousands of indie games appearing on iOS devices and mobile phones, some of which have gone on to make millions for their developers. Xbox 360 has an indie games section on Xbox LIVE marketplace but Sony’s current consoles – PlayStation 3 and PSP - have never really hosted games by ‘garage developers’ in a meaningful way.
That’s all set to change, according to comments made by president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) Shuhei Yoshida during a recent interview with Develop.
If you’re sick and tired of waiting around for big-budget JRPGs like Final Fantasy Versus XIII to appear on store shelves, then it might be worth considering some of Square Enix’s more modest titles which are currently available for purchase.
A good example of such a game is Chaos Rings Omega which dropped onto the iTunes Store yesterday. It’s a JRPG for iOS devices with character designs by the great Yusuke Naora - the art director for such classics as Final Fantasy VII, VIII and X.
