PC Gaming Alliance Logo The PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA), a non-profit PC gaming promotion group comprising companies such as Intel, nVidia, AMD, Microsoft, Capcom and Epic Games, has released a report revealing that worldwide software sales for PC gaming reached $13.1 billion in revenues in 2009, which represents a 3 percent increase over 2008.

This performance was due in large part to the continued propagation of digital distribution and sales through this avenue and growth in the Asia Pacific region, while increases in free-to-play and online social gaming and declines in subscription-based online games made growth a tough prospect in established markets.

The winners of Intel’s ‘Intel Level Up Game Demo Challenge 2009’ have been announced, a competition that called on independent game developers to create a game demo that took advantage of the computer chip maker’s various processing and graphics technologies.

Intel LogoThe winners received all kinds of cool hardware and software, which is sure to boost their game development efficiency, as well as the opportunity to receive extra marketing exposure for their games.

At the rAge Expo this year, Call of Duty 4 teams will compete to win a chance to represent South Africa at the prestigious international PC gaming competition, DreamHack, being held in Sweden.

Intel LogoThe Intel-sponsored competition at rAge will act as the South African qualifier for DreamHack. Not only will the winning team jet off to Sweden, but Intel will supply them with over R100 000 worth of equipment, including Intel processors and motherboards. Second and third-place teams will receive Intel processors, to the value of R26 000 and R19 000 respectively.

rAge Expo, a South African gaming convention, runs from the 3rd to the 5th of October at The Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg. Intel’s Call of Duty 4 competition takes place at 14H00 on October 5th on the Intel stage at rAge, so go support the teams if you’re there!
