Following in the wake of similarly upsetting news regarding redundancies at Sony Online Entertainment’s range of in-house studios, THQ has today confirmed that layoffs have hit two of its developers – Kaos Studios and Volition.
16 employees at the Champaign, Illinois-based Volition Inc. have been let go in an effort to “adjust [THQ’s] workforce to fit the studio’s current needs, which is a relatively common occurrence in the game development industry.”
During THQ’s quarterly earning report recently, the publisher revealed that Saints Row 3 is indeed in the works, while announcing a slight release date slip for the upcoming Homefront shooter, as well as release windows for Darksiders and Dark Millennium Online.
In 2013 “a new terror from Guillermo Del Toro” will emerge, this time set to exclusively invade the dreams and nightmares of gamers around the world.
A disturbingly creepy announcement trailer for Del Toro’s game, Insane, was shown during the Spike Video Game Awards 2010, and even though no gameplay was revealed, you can be sure the title will include healthy doses of the aforementioned “terror.”
The debut trailer for Insane (a videogame in development at THQ and Volition, and created in collaboration with movie director Guillermo Del Toro) can be found below:
