LucasArts have announced that they have renewed their distribution and publishing contract with Activision Blizzard, which will see the mega-publisher taking care of the business side of LucasArts’ games in the pan-European, Southeast Asian and Australian regions of the world.

LucasArts Logo After a successful partnership that saw the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed across many, multiple platforms, selling a whopping 5.7 million units in the process, the two companies hope to continue their successes with LucasArts’ upcoming Wii, DS, PSP and PS2 game, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, releasing in June this year. VP of global publishing at LucasArts, Mary Bihr said:

“This agreement with Activision reflects LucasArts’ commitment to the international markets and we look forward to bringing the best products to our consumers worldwide.

“We made the decision based upon Activision’s proven track record in managing strong brands and our long standing relationship which has produced tremendous results as games such as LEGO Indiana Jones and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed have risen to the top of sales charts globally.”

General manager of LucasArts International for Activision Publishing, Menno Van der Bil commented by saying; “LucasArts’ vast portfolio of video games has caught the imagination of gamers of all ages across the globe - opening up exciting new possibilities for much-loved franchises whilst injecting fresh ideas into the market.

“We look forward to working alongside LucasArts to release unique and innovative products the whole family can enjoy for the years to come.”

 


Activision Blizzard have revealed release dates for their next batch of games, including Indiana Jones and the Staff and Kings, as well as confirmed the release date for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Activision BlizzardThe next Indiana Jones action adventure, releasing on DS, Wii, PSP and PS2, will be on store shelves May 22nd in the UK and Europe. Watch the debut trailer for that over here.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine, meanwhile, has had its release date of May 1st in the UK and Europe confirmed. Check out El33tonline’s previous coverage of the title over here.

Other release dates announced include Animal Planet: Emergency Vets releasing on April 24th, Monsters VS Aliens on May 27th, while the stand-alone guitars for Guitar Hero World Tour will be available on March 27th.

Further release windows (no exact dates) were given for Prototype, releasing in June, and Wolfenstein, releasing in ‘the summer,’ both on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

It appears as though a new Indiana Jones game (that isn’t constructed out of Lego) will actually see the light of day, although not on ‘next-gen’ systems, as is the whispered rumour.

This new Indy game, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, is set for a release on Wii and DS, as well as an unspecified PlayStation console (presumably PS2 or PSP), while a version for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 aren’t accounted for. Rumours suggest that versions for those consoles have been scrapped, as LucasArts moves away from internal game development.

Whatever the rumours, this trailer is sure to get even Indy haters at least a little enthused, even if it isn’t in-game footage:
