EA’s Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince climbs three spots this week to take the number 1 position on the UK Software Sales Chart. Sales of the title rose by 5%, no doubt driven by the release of the film in cinemas, pushing it ahead of last week’s number 1, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which falls to number 3 (-20%).
According to Chart Track, four separate EA titles have reached number 1 in the All Formats Chart for a total of six out of the past seven weeks, with a total of five games in the All Formats Top 10 this week.
If you are a fan of the popular Harry Potter universe created by author J.K. Rowling, then you will no doubt jump at the opportunity to step into the young wizard’s shoes. The Half-Blood Prince picks up where Order of the Phoenix left off, as the journey continues with Harry Potter and Dumbledore’s legions trying to thwart the evil plans of he who shall not be named.
While the game is not strictly reserved for die-hard fans of the series, let’s face it, unless you are a fan of Potter you will probably not relish the thought of spending time waving your wand at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. EA have just announced that the next entry to the Harry Potter series of games, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will be out on June 30th around the world, which is apparently just ahead of the movie release, while gamers in the UK can expect to pick it up on July 3rd.
Based on J.K. Rowling’s sixth book in the Harry Potter Series, Half-Blood Prince (the game) will see players returning to the Hogwarts school of magic to endure Harry’s sixth year at the institution.
Players will also get to participate in wizard duels, mix and match ingredients to create new potions, and play in the annual round of Quidditch matches for Harry’s school house, Gryffindor, all the while trying to discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince.
Sorry to all the Muggles who didn’t understand that last bit…
