EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: harmonix
The original Dance Central is a bit of a favourite here at El33tonline and is still one of the best showcases of what Xbox 360’s Kinect motion controller is capable of, very accurately tracking your dance moves while subtly encouraging you to perform better and better routines with every play.
Dance Central 2 is due for release this week and to get us ready for some more moving and grooving, Microsoft and Harmonix have released a demo on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
A recently surfaced trademark has revealed that a new (music?) rhythm game is in the works at the excellent Harmonix to follow up on the studio’s Rock Band and instantly popular Dance Central games.
While Harmonix is giving Rock Band a break in 2011 and is currently working on Dance Central 2, this new title will form part of the company’s drive to develop new new original concepts to spread its love of combining music with games.
Dance Central 2 was another new title revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference.
Earlier today we learnt that Harmonix was working on a sequel to the popular Kinect dance game. Dance Central 2 will feature simultaneous 2 player dancing and you’ll be able to import tracks from the original Dance Central disc.
Dance Central fans will be able to enjoy three new songs today, courtesy of MTV Games and Harmonix.
The new downloadable content will include ‘I Gotta Feeling’ from The Black Eyed Peas, ‘Word Up!’ from Cameo and ‘Whoomp! (There It Is)’ from Tag Team. It will be available from today with each song costing 240 MS Points.
It’s been confirmed that Viacom Inc. (parent company of MTV Networks and Comedy Central) has decided to sell Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix, following several quarters of unprofitability for the media giant.
Viacom is reportedly in talks with several potential buyers for Harmonix, after acquiring the developer for $175 million at the end of 2006, and has classified the studio as ‘a discontinued operation.’
Harmonix has announced that all downloadable content (DLC) released for Rock Band after October 26th will be specific to Rock Band 3, and incompatible with previous entries to the series, the original Rock Band and Rock Band 2.
All tracks released before that date, however, will remain compatible with those titles, while new Rock Band Network songs will be playable across all versions of the franchise.
Why?
It recently came to the attention of consumer site Joystiq that copies of Dance Central, one of the headline games for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect launch next week, have been recalled from retail warehouses in North America due to a misprint error in the manuals included with copies of the game.
New copies of Dance Central will be shipped to stores next week to coincide with the planned launch of Kinect, Xbox 360’s controller-free gaming device, on November 4th in the US.
Microsoft issued the following statement regarding the Dance Central recall:
Harmonix recently announced that the ‘Imagine’ album from the legendary John Lennon will become available for Rock Band 3 following the game’s release this week, and will be amongst the first albums released for the title as downloadable content.
‘Imagine’ will form part of an amazing roster of upcoming downloadable albums for Rock Band 3, as songs from The Doors, Bon Jovi and Billy Joel will make an appearance on the Rock Band Music Store in the coming weeks.
Rock Band 3 launches around the world this week and introduces all kinds of new features for hardcore fans of the series, not least of which is the addition of the keyboard peripheral.
To formally introduce us to this third proper entry to the franchise, MTV Games and Harmonix have released a whimsical launch trailer for Rock Band 3 to let us know how rock band superstars are born:
One of the veritable ‘killer apps’ for Xbox 360’s upcoming controller-free motion technology, Kinect, is sure to be the rhythm dancing game Dance Central.
According to El33tonline’s preview of Dance Central, Rock Band creators Harmonix seem to have perfectly captured what gamers (and non-gamers) would want in a dancing title, and have provided an enormous amount of dance moves (and a great facility for learning all of those moves) so that after only a short time with the game, you’ll probably be able to moonwalk your way onto a real dance floor and tear it up.
Time to make sure that ol’ PlayStation Wallet is overflowing with credit because Harmonix and MTV Games are serving up limited time deals on PS3 Rock Band songs.
This sale on Rock Band downloadable content is to celebrate the October release of Rock Band 3 and it’s on right now. But hurry because you only have until the 4th of October to get up to 50% off select singles, song packs and albums from the Rock Band Music Store for the PS3.
Dance Central is a dance game that sees gamers using their own body to perform dance moves, controller free thanks to Kinect. The game is currently in development at Harmonix, who are no strangers to the music genre having created the successful Rock Band franchise. It will be one of the 15 launch titles available when Kinect hits shelves on the 4th of November in North America and a few days later on the 10th of November across South Africa and Europe.
Dance Central was one of the most popular titles on display, both at the gamescom Xbox 360 booth and at the pre-gamescom Play Day held recently in Cologne, Germany. El33tonline put their grooves to the test and discovered why you just can’t stop the beat!
In a pretty hilarious, very tongue-in-cheek video posted by fellows from Harmonix, the full list of tracks to be included in this year’s Rock Band 3 has been revealed, as the developers remind gamers to only trust ‘reliable’ sources of information (such as Harmonix proper), rather than get information from ‘terrible’ news sites that decide to leak information early.
You can watch that video below, as well as catch the impressive full list of Rock Band 3 tracks:
MTV Games and Harmonix have revealed a few more tracks that we can expect to see when Rock Band 3 and Dance Central launch later this year.
The Rock Band 3 setlist will include tracks from Marilyn Manson, Filter, Foreigner, Def Leppard, The B-52’s and Tears for Fears. Meanwhile Dance Central fans can look forward to heating up the dance floor with tunes from Snoop Dog, Salt-N-Pepa and Young MC.

MTV Games and Harmonix recently announced that Rock Band 3 will release in late October around the world for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS, while detailing a variety of pre-order options eager US consumers have available to them.
