Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerIt’s business as usual at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart this week, as Call of Duty occupies No. 1 and No. 2 and Halo: Reach and FIFA Soccer 11 follow closely behind

But.

New to the listing this week is Madden NFL 12 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which appear in the mix with GTA IV, Gears of War 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

We’re counting the days until the release of Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in October and November respectively to inject some fresh blood at the top of the chart, but until then, let’s look at some other activity on Xbox LIVE.

There’s hardly a single change in the list of Top Twenty most played games over Xbox LIVE compared to the week previous, with only a bit of shuffling going on in the last five entries as Mortal Kombat is relegated to the bottom of the chart.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller What about the top of the chart, you ask? Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are still bullying Halo: Reach, FIFA 11 and Grand Theft Auto IV, so it’s simply business as usual.

There has been a shake-up in the list of best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade titles with the release of From Dust last week, as well as a few minor changes in the list of top-selling Xbox LIVE Indie games and the activity chart for Games For Windows LIVE.

But not much.

The full global list of top played Xbox Live games, top-selling XBLA and Xbox Indie Games and most played Games For Windows LIVE games follows below, all based on unique users and full versions purchased:

Call of Duty: Black Ops is as dominant as ever on the latest Xbox LIVE Activity chart, appearing at the top of the listing to remain the number one most played game on Xbox LIVE.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller The rivalry between Black Ops and older sibling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 makes for a good fight, but Infinity Ward’s title has to settle for second place on the chart ahead of Halo: Reach, FIFA 11 and GTA IV.

As for the top-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game, that’s another easy answer: Bastion is solidly number one on this listing following its release last week, ahead of Warhammer 40: Kill Team and Deadliest Warrior: Legends.

On Tuesday Microsoft released a long overdue demo for Halo: Reach, exclusive to Xbox LIVE Gold members. Thankfully the demo is now open to everyone on LIVE, although the online multiplayer components of the sample are naturally locked for Free members.

It’s time once again to pore over the latest Xbox LIVE Activity listing to see which games were played the most on Microsoft’s online service, while also discovering which downloadable games sold the most.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerChart compiler Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb has this week included the Gears of War 3 beta in the list of most played Xbox 360 titles, so it’s very interesting to see how that shook out, but of course Call of Duty: Black Ops simply can’t be beaten, and appears at No. 1.

Again.

Yeah, Call of Duty: Black Ops is once again the number one most played game on Xbox LIVE, followed in hot pursuit by CoD: Modern Warfare 2 and Halo: Reach.

This is not news.

What’s at least a little interesting is that Mortal Kombat has made it into the top ten most active games on the service. You know what else is interesting? Ubisoft’s downloadable title Outland was the best-selling title on Xbox LIVE Arcade last week, outselling the reduced-price Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

It’s been a number of weeks since a new Xbox LIVE Activity chart has been released, but Xbox frontman Major Nelson has done due diligence and compiled an exhaustive list of the most played and best selling games on Xbox LIVE for the seven day period ending April 11th.

And wouldn’t you know it? Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are still sitting at the top of the ranking!

The Defiant Map Pack for Halo: Reach was released a couple weeks ago now to help freshen up the extensive multiplayer offering of Bungie’s last entry to the massive Halo franchise, and it’s definitely a great addition to the line-up.

Created by developer Certain Affinity in partnership with new Halo stewards 343 Industries, the Defiant Map Pack contains three all-new multiplayer levels to be played across competitive and Firefight modes in Halo: Reach – Certain Affinity did a great job of ensuring these new maps fit the tone of Halo with a rich sense of history sewn into them.

El33tonline and Xbox 360 South Africa gave you a chance to win one of two codes to redeem the Defiant Map Pack for Halo: Reach on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, and we’ve got the winners of the codes right here!

We can all agree that last year’s Halo: Reach was pretty much outstanding, with an awesome singleplayer campaign and a rich multiplayer portion included. But as good as the online component in Halo: Reach is, if you play the same multiplayer maps over and over (and over and over) again, you bound to get a little tired of them eventually.

This is why Halo franchise stewards 343 Industries and development partner Certain Affinity teamed up to create a new set of maps for Halo: Reach multiplayer!

Called the Defiant Map Pack, this new content comprises three all-new multiplayer maps for competitive and Firefight modes, and Certain Affinity has done a terrific job of instilling these levels with a rich sense of history in line with the Halo universe.

If you would like the chance to win the Defiant Map Pack for use in Halo: Reach, then we’ve got good news! El33tonline and Xbox 360 South Africa have teamed up to give away two download codes for this multiplayer map pack, and you could win one by answering an easy question at our Halo: Reach Defiant Map Pack Competition page!

As Halo players already know, Halo: Reach is one of the most complete first-person shooters ever created and includes an amazing singleplayer campaign and a multiplayer experience crammed to the gills (the gills!) with features that make other offerings from similar games seem shallow in comparison. Not to mention it’s great fun!

With the release of the second multiplayer map pack for Halo: Reach, Defiant, Microsoft has extended the range of online playgrounds available to multiplayer gamers with three new arenas – two for competitive play and one for the round-based, enemy-wave-destroying Firefight mode.

Not only is the Defiant map pack important for Halo fans in order to freshen up gameplay a bit and provide new levels to sink their teeth into, but it’s also a significant piece of content because it is, in effect, a ‘passing of the torch’ from previous franchise stewards Bungie to the new Halo custodians, 343 Industries, as well as that company’s development partner, Certain Affinity.

While Certain Affinity has played in this sandbox before with the creation of sets of Halo remake maps for Halo 2 (and the fact that the team comprises former members of Bungie), this is the first time (to my knowledge) that an original piece of playable Halo content has been created by anyone other than Bungie.

Another week, another period of absolute dominance for Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox LIVE’s online activity chart, once again remaining the most played game on the service ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Halo: Reach, FIFA 11 and NBA 2K11. Debut title Homefront is also in the mix…

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller As for best-selling games over Xbox LIVE Marketplace, Full House Poker slips ahead of Torchlight and Battle: Los Angeles on the Xbox LIVE Arcade circuit, while The Impossible Game once again makes it to the top of the Indie Game sales listing in front of Marksman: Long Range and Avatar Paintball.

Grand Theft Auto IV is still the most played game over Games For Windows LIVE, in case you were wondering.

Xbox frontman Major Nelson has once again released the latest Xbox LIVE Activity ranking, this time for the week beginning February 7th, and once again Activision and Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops is king of the chart, remaining the No. 1 most played game on Xbox LIVE.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 follows in behind, which in turn is followed by Halo: Reach, FIFA 11 and NBA 2K11. Best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games for this past week include Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, the recently released Stacking (yay!) and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.

Best-selling Xbox LIVE Indie games (or ‘games’) include Voice Changer 360, Bird Assassin and Toy Stunt Bike.
