So, Halo 3: ODST had this multiplayer mode called Firefight. Do you remember Firefight? It was a ‘new’ match type (new to Halo, anyway) that pitted you and a few friends (or online strangers) against progressively more difficult waves of enemies - five waves made up a round and three rounds made up a set, or full game, of Firefight.

Halo: Reach is set to include its own brand of Firefight multiplayer, only this time it’s going to be highly customisable and feature full matchmaking support (which was a major omission from ODST’s implementation of the mode), while boasting four-player abilities over Xbox LIVE, or local play via two-player split-screen.

If you so desire (if you’re a Halo fan, I imagine you would desire it greatly), you can watch a match of Halo: Reach’s Firefight play out in a seven minute gameplay video below, which scales into pretty intense levels of action:

Halo 2 Box ArtXbox LIVE support for the original Xbox shut down during the early hours of this morning, which means that all of your favourite first-generation Xbox games are no longer playable online.

No more Halo 2, is what that means.

To say goodbye in the proper manner, Gametrailers recorded one final Halo 2 multiplayer match, and it’s kind of difficult to watch. Not because of any fond, distant memories that come flooding back, but because, compared to modern games, Halo 2 looks quite dated.

Maybe it is time to move on to Halo 3 and the upcoming Halo: Reach, after all…

Starting today, Xbox 360 owners will be able to visit Halo Waypoint, a new destination on Xbox LIVE, and the “virtual home for all things Halo.”

Halo 3 once again sits atop the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart for who-knows-how-many time in a row (a lot!), but it had better be savouring every last second it remains at No. 1, because that big ‘ole gorilla, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is releasing inside of two weeks from now, and if history has any say, it’s going to wipe Halo 3 away and claim No. 1 for itself.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerThat’s not to say Halo 3 won’t put up any kind of fight – with the release of Halo 3: ODST (which you can read out review of over here), this two year old game is still giving the new kids on the block a run for their money, so it’s going to be extremely interesting to see how the chart shakes out in the future.

On the best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade Chart, Trials HD manages to climb its way back to the top, followed by SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! and the more recent title, Tower Bloxx Deluxe.

Something needs to be done about the Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales chart… once again, we have Avatar Drop, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Headshot in the top three… c’mon indie developers! Make us some new hits!

Say what you will about the space opera-esque story of the Halo series, but Bungie has consistently delivered the most solid, well designed console first-person shooter experience since the original Halo on the original Xbox, only recently matched by offerings such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and, to a lesser extent, Killzone 2, but there’s something inexplicably delicious about the combination of gunplay, level design and freestyle sandbox gameplay on hand in every Halo game.

Halo Waypoint Logo

A debut trailer for Xbox LIVE’s new Halo Waypoint has been released, but what exactly is Halo Waypoint?

Well, in short, it’s a new destination on Xbox LIVE specifically for Halo fans, featuring what seems like an enormous amount of information on everything to do with the universe, including developer created and community submitted content, with additions to the service hitting everyday.

It’s no real surprise that Halo 3 remains at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity chart for the past week, after the extremely strong release of Halo 3: ODST which contained additional content for Halo 3 multiplayer, but it is at least a little interesting that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has managed to keep in the top three most played games on the service for the last few weeks, as players prepare for the next iteration of the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerHalo 3: ODST, Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2 follow behind the top two in terms of Xbox LIVE activity.

On the Xbox LIVE Arcade sales front, there’s a great battle going on as Trials HD moves back up to the No. 1 as the most bought XBLA title, shoving last week’s No. 1, Zombie Apocalypse, to No. 2, as newly released title Bust-A-Move Live! sits at No. 3.

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 is still the best selling Xbox LIVE Indie Game, and is still ahead of what seems like perennial best-sellers Avatar Drop and Avatar Golf.

FIFA 10 EA’s latest football game, Fifa 10, has managed a massive launch, effortlessly muscling into the top spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart in its first week on sale, becoming the biggest No. 1 launch in the UK since GTA IV, and generating 48% more sales than Fifa 09 exactly one year ago, making it the biggest launch of a Fifa football game ever.

Bungie have finally done it; not content to hold the top spot on the Xbox LIVE Activity chart this past week with Halo 3, and consistently taking the same spot on the original Xbox activity chart with Halo 2, they’ve gone and occupied the second spot as well, with Halo 3: ODST sitting contentedly at No. 2 on the list.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerCall of Duty 4, Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2 trail behind the two leaders.

The newly released Zombie Apocalypse becomes the best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game for the week, followed by Pinball FX and the previous chart dominator, Trials HD.

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1, meanwhile, continues its reign at the top of the Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales chart, having by now taken up almost permanent residence in the position, as Avatar Drop and Fishing Girl place at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.

Exactly two years after the release of Halo 3, the follow-up to the Halo trilogy, Halo 3: ODST, sits at the top of Chart Track’s All Formats UK Software Sales chart in its debut week on sale.

Halo 3: ODST BoxshotReleasing last Tuesday (September 22nd), Halo 3: ODST managed to sell through 64% of its total first week unit sales in the first 24 hours of availability, earning it a place at No. 12 in terms of the biggest week 1 sell-through for a title on a single format.

Halo 3 ranks in at No. 4 on that particular scale, with GTA: San Andreas on the PS2 at No. 1, GTA IV on 360 at No. 2, and GTA IV on PS3 at No. 3, making up the top three best sellers in week one sales.
