So, in 2007 and just before the release of Halo 3, Microsoft’s advertising campaign was running in overdrive to spread the word that the countdown sequence to ‘the second coming’ in the world of videogames had begun, letting everyone know that this mighty title was imminent.
As part of that campaign (entitled ‘Believe’), Microsoft and its ad agency released a diorama-based commercial showing a frozen moment in time on a supposed battlefield in which protagonist Master Chief himself was a part of. The trailer was epic and set to hauntingly beautiful music – just the thing to get gamers in the mood for Halo 3.
Now, with the release of Epic and People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm late next month, a specially themed parody of that ‘famous’ Halo 3 trailer has been unleashed. Depending on your tastes, it may invoke a guffaw or two.
Oh, it also has brand new in-game footage from Bulletstorm right near the end, so watch out for that:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hasn’t yet seen a suitable challenge on the Xbox LIVE Activity ranking since its release in November 2009, this much is true. Week in, week out, the game consistently shows up at the top of the chart, reigning supreme as the number one most played game on the service, worldwide.
That time may soon be at an end, however.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! You will be set up a bomb! You have no chance of survive, make your time!”
Wha… what on earth? Is it possible? Can the ancient prophecy really be true? Are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s ‘End Days’ upon us?
With the release of Bungie’s Halo: Reach next week, on September 14th, you’d better believe that over the next few weeks Modern Warfare 2 is going to face some stiff competition on Xbox LIVE’s activity rankings, making for an incredible battle for supremacy.
It’s time to kick the habit. I’ve been patient with you. I’ve been kind and I’ve offered professional help. But now it has to stop. This addiction to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out of control.
Don’t tell me that ‘millions of people play it on Xbox LIVE every week’ and that you’re ‘no different.’ If ‘millions of people’ bought those $15 map packs, would you do the same?
Oh…
You’re in too deep. You’re tearing our dorm room apart! We want to play Halo 3 and Call of Duty: World at War!

The tragic story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is relatively unknown, but is heartbreaking nonetheless.
Known as ‘Modern Warfare 2’ to its friends, the game grew up happy and extremely popular in its younger days, but as it got older, and people began to turn on it due to inevitable backlash, its heart grew cold and black and it started to lash out at its old friends.
Even though its popularity never waned, Modern Warfare 2’s lust for attention grew and grew, and it was never satisfied with the friends that it had – it started to steal friends from other games, like Halo 3 and its brother, Call of Duty: World at War, by handing out expensive gifts, and coveted its newfound companions like precious jewels, jealously guarding them against the temptation of others.
And so we find ourselves in the current situation – Modern Warfare 2 is still the most popular game on Xbox LIVE, surrounded by a sea of ‘friends’ who would sooner turn on it when the next best thing comes along than stay and keep it company.

OK, so here’s my latest theory.
Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been the most played game on Xbox LIVE more or less since it launched at the end of 2009, beating back games like Halo 3 and the other Call of Duty games with ease. How is this possible? Bots.
Activision has created millions of Xbox LIVE accounts for millions of computer-controlled in-game bots which are constantly playing Modern Warfare 2, and therefore contributing to the game’s constant, consistent and dominating presence on Xbox LIVE, week after week, month after month.
What’s the alternative? Millions and millions of real people have actually bought Modern Warfare 2, and play the game night after night online? Ha ha, please! Give me a break. My ‘bot’ theory is logical. The alternative is pure fantasy.
Anyways… Blacklight: Tango Down is this past week’s top-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game, followed by Monkey Island 2: Special Edition – LeChuck’s Revenge and After Burner Climax, while the list of best-selling Xbox Indie Games is topped by (do I really have to say this? Really?! OK, fine) Try Not to Fart, followed by I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Avatar Ninja!

Have you heard of this hot new ‘first-person shooter’ called ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’? It’s totally tearing up the sales charts, and after only a short while on the market, has managed to make its debut at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity Ranking!
Considering the competition, like Halo 3 and Red Dead Redemption, this is quite a feat!
Maybe you should check out this underdog title, ‘Modern Warfare 2,’ when you get the chance and spread the word a bit. I predict it will remain at the top of the charts for, oh, I don’t know, at least seven months straight.

OK Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we get it. You’re good. You’re the king of Xbox LIVE. Week after week, you’ve proven yourself to be the No. 1 most played game on the service. How about giving someone else a chance now, huh?
Halo 3 and Red Dead Redemption are just as worthy of the title. What about giving Battlefield: Bad Company 2 a shot? Why… why are you laughing? Why do have to be that way, Modern Warfare 2?
Well, moving on from ‘The Modern Warfare 2 Activity Ranking,’ the list of best selling games on Xbox LIVE Arcade is topped by debut title RISK Factions, as well as a whole bunch of Sonic games thanks to a special price promotion last week.
Best selling Xbox Indie Games, meanwhile, come in the form of Avatar Paintball, The Impossible Game and Baby Maker Extreme. I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 is only fourth on the list. Scandalous.

Oh that rascally Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! Always beating up on all of the other Xbox 360 games! It’s just never content with an Xbox LIVE activity ranking of anything less than No. 1! What are we going to do with it?!
Well I’ll tell you what we’re going to do.
We’re going to airdrop copies of Halo 3 and Red Dead Redemption into every major city, town and village in the world and make sure that these games (which have the best chance of upsetting ‘the king’) finally overtake Modern Warfare 2 on the chart.
Failing that… I don’t know anymore…
Moving right along, let’s have a look at the best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game for last week and… oh look, another Xbox LIVE bully!
So, how about that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, huh? Still the most played game on Xbox LIVE? Yep. Still beating back other super popular games, like Red Dead Redemption, Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 4? Yep.
On to the rest of the chart then!
Snoopy Flying Ace was the best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game during its first week on sale, followed by Prince of Persia Classic (which was a Deal of the Week last week) and DOOM II. Avatar Paintball is the best selling Xbox Indie Games this past week, with The Impossible Game and Avatar Racedrome trailing behind.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is the most played game on Games For Windows LIVE this week, followed by activity for Grand Theft Auto IV and Colin McRae: Dirt 2.

At this stage, we may as well call the weekly Xbox LIVE Activity ranking the ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Plus Other’ ranking, because week after week, time after time, this insidious (in all the right ways) game consistently shows up at the top of the chart, meaning it’s always the most played game on Xbox LIVE.
This dominance is only set to get worse, with the release of the next map pack, Resurgence, tomorrow (June 3rd), exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
It is interesting, however, the way Red Dead Redemption has effortlessly climbed up the listing since its recent launch…
As for best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games, the newly released DOOM II sits comfortably at the top of this particular chart, with Game Room (and its assortment of games) and Toy Soldiers following behind. The list of best selling Xbox Indie games is mixed up with the appearance of Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight at first, trailed by Avatar Racedrome and The Impossible Game.

What’s it going to take?! What supernatural act in the world of gaming will be able to shift Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from its position of power at the top of Xbox LIVE’s Activity ranking, and allow another game – any game – to claim the No. 1 spot on the list?
As you may have guessed, Modern Warfare 2 was still the most played game on Xbox LIVE over the last week, as the combined efforts of Halo 3: ODST, the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta and Halo 3 could not tilt the balance of power, and return the world to the way it was before ‘The Dark Presence’ appeared… on November 10th 2009.
As for best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games, Zombie Apocalypse tops that particular chart, while the combined sales of Game Room games sits at No. 2 on the list, and Toy Soldiers appears at No. 3.
The list of top selling Xbox Indie Games is ruled by Baby Maker Extreme at No. 1, with Avatar Onslaught and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
This week, we’ve also got access to a list of the most played Games For Windows (GFW) games, as Grand Theft Auto IV, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and Colin McRae : Dirt 2 appear at the top of that ranking.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues its domination as the number 1 most played game on Xbox LIVE this week. Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are all still nipping at its heels, but the behemoth remains strong and fights off the competition once again.
The Dishwasher: Dead Samuari is the top selling XBLA game this week followed by Tecmo Bowl Throwback and Trials HD. Meanwhile Baby Maker Extreme once again tops the sales chart for Xbox LIVE Indie titles followed by I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Avatar Onslaught.
The combined efforts of Halo 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Fifa 10 and Call of Duty: World at War, cannot, I repeat, cannot make a dent on the popularity of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as the first-person shooter set in contemporary times of conflict is again the No. 1 most played game on Xbox LIVE this week.
Interestingly (although not surprisingly), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has steadily been losing ground on the chart, now sitting at No. 9 on the listing from No. 6 last week. The prince has been crowned and the old king is scampering away…
Last week’s new Xbox LIVE Arcade game, After Burner Climax, is the No. 1 best selling XBLA game, followed by games for Game Room and the excellent Final Fight: Double Impact, while the sales chart for Xbox LIVE Indie titles is dominated by Baby Maker Extreme, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Yet Another Zombie Defense.
