The Killzone series has come a long way since the original game introduced PS2 players to the Helghast back in 2004. Last month it was revealed that this title would be released on the US PlayStation Store on January 24th under the PS2 Classics category.
After a new rating surfaced for the original Killzone by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board in the US, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed to Game Informer that the classic PlayStation 2 first-person shooter will see a release on PlayStation 3 this month.
To commemorate the release of the third Killzone 3 map pack, Sony and Guerrilla Games will be holding a massive Triple-XP Weekend… starting today.
The third map pack for Killzone 3 is set to become available today (June 21st) and tomorrow (June 22nd) in North America and Europe respectively over the PlayStation Network, and will net you four maps new to Killzone 3 multiplayer.
Two of the maps in the ‘From the Ashes’ pack will be brand new Warzone levels, while two Guerrilla Warfare maps based on Killzone 2 multiplayer arenas (re-imagined and revamped for Killzone 3) will also feature.
You’ve got to admire the team over at Guerrilla Games for working so hard to improve its product even after it ships. This continued dedication to Killzone 3 is evident in the new patch, which went live today.
The notes for patch 1.10 can be found below and reference a bevy of new features including the ability to listen to music from your PlayStation 3’s hard drive during multiplayer matches. The patch also includes a number of fixes based on player feedback.
If you’re a fan of the Killzone series then you’ll no doubt be happy to hear that more Killzone action figures are now available.
Oh boy! The latest patch for Killzone 3 is now live and available for download, bringing your version of the brutal first-person shooter up to 1.07!
This patch arrives ahead of the latest map pack for Killzone 3, Steel Rain, which will become available for European gamers later today, and then next week (April 12th) for our US counterparts.
You’ll be able to grab the Steel Rain content for €4.99 over the European PlayStation Store, and $4.99 on the US PlayStation Store (next week, obviously).

Having played through Killzone 3’s singleplayer campaign (read El33tonline’s review here) to emerge out the other end extremely impressed, it finally came time to jump into the multiplayer portion of this blockbuster first-person shooter and see if the online competition could contend with its offline counterpart, while also measuring up to other multiplayer shooters vying for your time and money.

Guerrilla Games has today officially announced the existence of a second multiplayer map pack for its just-released Killzone 3, following “[h]ot on the heels of our Retro Map Pack.”
This second set of downloadable content (DLC), Steel Rain, will contain two brand new levels inspired by areas from Killzone 3’s singleplayer campaign (catch our review of the campaign over here). You can flip through a great selection of screenshots from this new DLC below, and catch the first details on both maps (‘MP-09 Junkyard’ and ‘MP-10 Stahl Arms’) a little ways below:
As you are by now no doubt aware, Killzone 3 launched across North America yesterday to major acclaim, and is due for release over the course of this week in South Africa, Europe and the UK. (Read El33tonline’s Killzone 3 review over here).
Something you may not be aware of is that a ‘Zero Day Patch’ has been released and is available for download the next time you start Killzone 3 while connected online.
Following the conclusion of a very successful multiplayer open beta for Killzone 3, the development team at Guerrilla Games has taken the opportunity to thank everybody who participated in the online taster, and as an added ‘gift’ a number of key multiplayer issues will be resolved with the release of a patch once Killzone 3 launches around the world next week.
As videogames become bigger, badder and more… blockbuster, we can almost come to expect certain levels of quality from these massive productions. Gameplay mechanics and hidden systems will be honed and hammered out to near-perfection, the visuals will be top-notch, and production values will be through the roof… but there are still things that these multi-million dollar extravaganzas are able to get wrong, and even if everything else is perfectly in place, overall presentation and pacing can trip up the show and turn what may have otherwise been a stellar ‘spectacular-spectacular’ into a tedious ‘regular-regular.’

The currently-on-the-go multiplayer open beta for Killzone 3 recently received a bit of a fix and patch from the fine folks at Guerrilla Games to address connection problems and other issues, while also responding to feedback from players.
A bunch of interesting statistics regarding the beta were also revealed, including the fact that 62 million kills have been recorded in the multiplayer taster since going live last week!
New performance information has emerged from the recently held PlayStation Experience event in London regarding Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Killzone 3, and if what the developer says can be believed, Killzone 3 is going to be a graphical monster!
