The PlayStation Blog’s weekly podcast is often the first place you’ll hear news items related to the PlayStation Store release schedule. The latest episode of the ‘PlayStation Blogcast’ is no different, revealing that next week’s PS Store Update will feature a rather surprising addition - a free-to-play version of Killzone 3’s multiplayer mode!
“To celebrate the return of the PlayStation Network and welcome you back to Killzone 3’s online battlefield,” begins a blog post on Killzone.com, “we’ve got a Double XP Weekend lined up!”
This is the best kind of celebration for multiplayer fans, I think.
Killzone 3 takes place on the deeply hostile planet of Helghan as ‘the good guys,’ the ISA, launch a counter-attack on this world in response to an invasion attempt by the Helghast on the planet of Vekta, and a long seated period of war and aggression between the two parties.
It wasn’t always this way, though. At one time, the Helghast people could actually call those living on Vekta ‘friend,’ but delusion and resentment soon set in making the two worlds deadly enemies.
Are you excited about Killzone 3? Do live in the US? Are you looking to buy a PlayStation 3 (or another one)?
Great, because when Killzone 3 launches in the country on February 22nd, a Limited Edition PlayStation 3 Killzone 3 bundle will also become available to make that purchase decision a little more difficult.
The countdown to the release of Killzone 3 has begun in earnest, and when this game hits on February 22nd in North America, February 23rd in Europe and February 25th in the UK, it’ll quite easily represent the biggest blockbuster game release of February.
Yes, I’m aware of the ‘other games of February.’
If you’re getting a little antsy in the lead-up to the launch of Killzone 3, you’ve got a few options to bide your time:
[Update] The Killzone 3 multiplayer open beta is now live on the US PlayStation Store! Go get it! [End of Update]
If you’ve been hankering for a spot of online Killzone 3 competitive action, now’s your chance as the multiplayer open beta for Guerrilla’s Game’s next blockbuster first-person shooter is live and available on the European PlayStation Network.
It’s generally agreed that Killzone 3 is looking absolutely mighty! Graphically, gameplay- and feature-wise, it’s all shaping up to be something very special indeed, but what goes into the making of such an epic, blockbuster first-person shooter extravaganza?
To get an idea of the immense amount of work it’s taken to make Killzone 3, you can watch a preview video for a full behind-the-scenes featurette, which is included in the Helghast Edition of Killzone 3.
From a post on the US PlayStation Blog explaining the featurette:
If one wanted to learn a bit more about, Killzone 3, say, a good start to one’s quest for knowledge on this excellent-looking first-person shooter would be right here on this very page, because included a few centimetres below this text is a brand new video captured from a multiplayer session of the game, taking place in the bizarre, twisting and vibrant alien jungle of Kaznan.
Or so I’ve been told.
Quench your thirst for Killzone 3 knowledge with this excellent new trailer:
It may have been announced last week already that Guerrilla Games will be flashing a glimpse of Killzone 3’s multiplayer mode in early February with the release of the game’s open beta, but that shouldn’t keep you from enjoying a very tasty trailer featuring the very online competitive action you’ll be able to get up to in the sample.
Watch below as ISA and Helghast troops scurry in and around the devastated city streets in a map called ‘MP03 Bilgarsk Boulevard,’ and don’t forget to blink a few times while taking in those luscious visuals – it’s hurts if you let your corneas get too dry, you understand:
Would you take orders from Malcolm McDowell and plunge headlong into a vicious, deadly war for supremacy? What about Ray Winstone ?
Regardless, in Killzone 3, countless Helghast troops are marching into battle at the behest of these actors, or rather, the voices of these classic thespian-types, as they are both now confirmed to be lending vocal performances to Sony and Guerrilla Games’ blockbuster first-person shooter.
In the Killzone 3 story trailer included below, you’ll be able to hear snippets of the actors’ performances as well as witness a desperate power struggle between the two, in amongst an impressive array of explosions, gunfire and mechanical perambulation.
More screenshots from Killzone 3 are scattered below, too. Enjoy:
The Killzone 3 multiplayer beta is ramping up for those of you who’ve managed to get an invite into the taster, but for those of us who have not got that all important invite to this preview of Guerrilla’s Games’ next first-person shooter spectacular-spectacular, we’ve got no less than two extraordinary videos from the game for you, as well as a batch of screenshots from the beta.
Just a little bit further below, you’ll be able to treat yourself to extended in-game footage that some clever chaps have captured while running around capping ISA and Helghast soldiers in Killzone 3’s multiplayer beta:
In a post on the US PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games has just gone and announced an official US release date for the studio’s upcoming blockbuster first-person shooter, Killzone 3.
Famitsu has posted up an excellent batch of Killzone 3 screenshots to further reveal the power, the glory and the beauty of this graphical beast of a game.
Right… so that’s a bit too much, but can you dispute the fact that the newly released screenshots for this technical marvel are highly impressive? Nah, didn’t think so.
Case in point:
In an effort to instil potential gamers with a sense of awe and even more anticipation, Guerrilla Games has released two brief videos demonstrating what the team dubs ‘Cinematic Deaths,’ or events, in the upcoming Killzone 3.
A recent Guerrilla Games blog post explains:
Sony has unveiled the box art for next year’s Killzone 3, and in keeping with tradition the cover of the game is filled with the visage of series antagonist, a Helghast soldier.
With a gun pointed aimlessly to the side.
Standing in the middle of a snowstorm.
Staring at you with glowy eyes.
