It felt like Christmas morning as I opened my Wii MotionPlus and attached it to the Wii Remote. After first seeing the Wii MotionPlus demonstrated at E3 2008 with Wii Sports Resort, I was intrigued if this tiny addition could really enhance the gaming experience offered by the Wii. I would have preferred my first encounter with the Wii MotionPlus to be with a Nintendo title to ensure the hardware was being put to best use but for better or worse EA’s Grand Slam Tennis was going to have to do.
To get started quickly you can use any of the existing players of which Grand Slam boasts an impressive line-up of names that young and old can certainly recognise. Even if you aren’t a tennis follower you’ll be surprised as to how familiar the names of these tennis legends are.

EA South Africa launched EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis in South Africa at a sporty event held in Johannesburg yesterday.
Upon arriving at the German Country Club in Paulshof, each attending journalist was given a few goods that would later prove to be essential in order for EA to carry out their cunning plans for us unsuspecting members of the press. A closer inspection of the contents of the bag revealed a shiny new tennis racket (Federer Grand Slam of course, being branded with EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis on the cover was a nice touch), a pack of three tennis balls, a water bottle, sweat bands for the wrist (pink for girl players, blue for boys!) and a long-sleeve branded T-shirt.
With my hands wrapped around a warm cup of coffee in an effort to offset the chilly weather that had enveloped most of the country, I happened to glance to my left and notice a number of tennis courts. It suddenly became apparent that EA had nefarious plans to get us normally couch-bound journalists, most of whom were gamers, to play actual real-life tennis!
El33tonline had hands-on time with Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus at the launch of EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis yesterday, but the good news is that you will also be able to get your hands on this new accessory soon.
Wii MotionPlus will be available across South Africa this Friday, the 12th of June. It will be available separately for R349.99, and it will also be bundled with two upcoming titles. Wii MotionPlus will include a new Wii Remote Jacket since the new white accessory clips on to the bottom of the Wii Remote, making it slightly longer.
One of the all time greats of the tennis world, John McEnroe, is scheduled to make his videogame debut when EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis hits shelves this June.
McEnroe is no stranger to the spotlight, having won seven Grand Slams including three at Wimbledon and 77 singles titles. Check out the trailer below to see the man in action.
