27th Annual Golden Joystick Awards LogoThe 27th annual Golden Joystick Awards has crowned last year’s excellent Fallout 3 as the Ultimate Game of the Year, while Activision Blizzard walked away with the Publisher of the Year award.

Games eligible for recognition at this year’s Golden Joystick Awards had to have been released between May 22, 2008 and May 22, 2009, which means that, while more recent titles weren’t on the voting ballots, there was still a wealth of quality titles to consider, as popular UK retailers and successful UK developers were also up for nomination.

After garnering 1.2 million votes from the public, the winners in each of the 15 categories of this year’s Golden Joystick Awards are as follows:

Golden Joysticks Awards 2008The 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards was held last week, probably the most prestigious publicly-voted awards event for the games industry, bestowing awards on not only the games themselves, but the companies that move the industry, from publishers, to developers to retailers.

The event’s awards were dominated by Activision, as Guitar Hero III, Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War received awards. Additionally, Activision itself won the ‘Publisher of the Year’ award. Nintendo picked up an award or two as well, while Rockstar also received some nods.
