The classic arcade fantasy brawler released all those years ago, Golden Axe, is set to receive an update in the form of a new entry to the series, Golden Axe: Beast Rider. This one is a prequel, though, and doesn’t include any of the original characters, but instead stars the half-Gladiator/half-Barbarian, Tyris Flare, as she begins her quest to avenge her tribe.
‘Beast-Riding’, ‘Savage Combat’, ‘Spells & Magic Weapons’ and ‘Brutal Melee Action’ are promised in Golden Axe: Beast Rider, but not much else is actually known about the title. Oh, and it doesn’t include a multiplayer or co-operative component. Sorry.
Golden Axe: Beast Rider releases to UK and European stores on October 17th, while North America gets it on October 14th, releasing on PS3 and Xbox 360.
While the original Golden Axe is still held in high regard, this new game, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, has a lot to prove. While it doesn’t feature the co-operative combat that made the original so great, Beast Rider is going to try to win players over with its brutal melee combat.
You play as Tyris Flare, a half-Gladiator/half-Barbarian in a story taking place before the original. You’ll get to ‘savage’ enemy beasts either on foot or while riding ‘massive mythical beasts’ - hence the name - while also having access to a range of magical weapons and spells.
Golden Axe: Beast Rider is expected on PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year, from Secret Level and Sega.
