Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced a price and release month for the God of War Collection in South Africa, allowing PS3 gamers in the country to get their hands on the remastered, high-definition versions of both the original God of War and God of War II on a single Blu-ray disc.
OK, don’t get me wrong. The new, remastered versions of the original God of War and God of War II look amazing, especially in comparison to their first appearances on the PlayStation 2, but even with a new coat of high definition paint, they still pale in comparison to next year’s God of War III.
Take this video from the upcoming God of War Collection for example:
Looks great, right? How about this next one?
Sony has announced that gamers who buy the popular sci-fi film District 9 on Blu-ray will also be able to play the God of War III E3 demo.
This is the first time that Sony, or anyone else in the industry, has included a demo and a film on a hybrid disc. God of War fans who complete the demo will also unlock an exclusive making of featurette about God of War III.
Sony has announced that the God of War Collection has gone gold and will be available for the PS3 across North America on the 17th of November.
The God of War Collection includes both God of War and God of War II in HD on a single Blu-ray disc. Of course the new HD versions will also include lots of trophies. God of War III Design Director Todd Papy explains: “Other than all the visual improvements that we added to the God of War Collection, the most exciting part for me was the opportunity to go back and add in full trophy support for both games.”
The God of War Collection, which includes both God of War and God of War II, will be available across North America this November.
This is the games debut on the PS3, and they are being remastered in full HD resolution on a single Blu-ray Disc for the occasion. Both games were originally developed for the PS2 but will now include 2X anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smoother gameplay experience on the PS3. Of course trophy support will also be included, a first for the God of War series.
Speaking to videogame consumer site 1up, the leader of Team ICO has stated that he would like to see his studio’s previous games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, re-released on the PS3 in a combo pack in the same vein as the upcoming God of War Collection. Ueda said of the idea:
“Initially, I didn’t want to consider that; I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I’ve been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users.”
Earlier in the week Sony revealed that God of War I and II would be coming to the PS3 in a Blu-ray Disc Compilation. The publisher announced that the God of War Collection would be available this holiday season.
Now Sony has announced that the God of War Collection won’t be available in Europe this year. It’s likely that it will only arrive on European shelves in 2010, while American gamers will still be able to enjoy it before the end of the year. Perhaps the publisher will launch it alongside God of War III in Europe, which arrives in March 2010.
Sony of America has announced that God of War I and II will be coming to the PS3 in a Blu-ray Disc Compilation this holiday season.
Both games in the God of War Collection will be remastered to run at 60 frames per second with anti-aliased graphics in full 1280 x 720 resolution and will include PlayStation Network trophies. The Collection will retail at $39.99.
