An exciting announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment is due any day now… this week, in fact, with a teaser image recently appearing on the company’s Facebook page outing a date of ‘April 19th.’

What might be revealed on this date? With talk of vengeance and redemption, all signs point to a new entry to the God of War franchise, God of War IV being the most obvious one.

The new ‘timeline’ design and layout in Facebook may have been resisted for some time, but now that it’s officially rolled over and we’ve now been forced to use it, it’s actually pretty neat. Being able to put up your own large custom banner image at the top of your personal or business page is one of the nicer additions and can be used for lots of great purposes.

Like teasing the next blockbuster videogame.

If you happened to stroll through the streets of Cologne, Germany today you couldn’t help but to notice the vast number of Uncharted 3 billboard advertisements dominating the city. This prominence is, of course, due to the gamescom videogame expo, the largest in the world, which kicks off this week and will see scores of thousands of gaming fanatics pouring through the doors of the Koelnmesse to see the latest and greatest that the videogame world has to offer.

Gamescom Feature Banner Logo

Sony was hit hard earlier this year by the PlayStation Network hack and the resulting backlash against the PlayStation brand. Despite this, 2011 has been a bumper year for the company in terms of a number of triple-A exclusives being released for PlayStation 3. We’ve already enjoyed the likes of LittleBigPlanet 2 and inFAMOUS 2, but what about the games we’ve still got to look forward to this year such as Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 and Journey?

Sony will undoubtedly have a large presence at gamescom, and I know my fellow contributors can’t wait to see what the company shows off at the event. I put a list together of some of my hoped-for highlights and here it is for your reading pleasure.

A recent posting on the Facebook page of PlayStation Mexico, however, may have just revealed that a new God of War game is in the works, and that it is indeed named God of War IV.

Accompanied by the game’s supposed logo, a description of the game was posted up on the page, and directly translated it goes a little something like this:
