What’s that? You don’t have either the original Gears of War or Gears of War 2? And you’ve never considered buying the ‘All Fronts Collection’ add-on, even if you had those awesome action games?!
C’mon in from the cold, son – have I got a bargain for you!
In February, you’ll be able to purchase the ‘Gears of War Triple Pack,’ a collection of gaming amusements that includes Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection.
What does this mean?
Three incredible games are getting multiplayer experience boosts this weekend to celebrate Halloween, which means that if you play the respective games, you’ll be able to earn much more in-game XP than you would usually be able to do.
Let’s first take a look at Activision Blizzard and Bizarre Creation’s excellent Blur weekend event, which will offer double XP from now until the end of Sunday.
“What’s that enormous, otherworldly shape careening straight towards us?! It looks somehow familiar, as though I’ve spent many, many hours with it before, but at the same time, it’s different…
“It’s getting closer now! Those grinding gears! Those cranking cogs! Is this creature man, beast… or machine?! I can almost make out its form…
“Arg! It’s Gears of War 2 on Xbox LIVE’s Games on Demand service!” * dies *
Yes, you read that right: Gears of Wars 2 is available to purchase and download now via Xbox LIVE’s digital download service, Games on Demand.
Head on down below for the official description, more information, and a smattering of classic trailers from when the game was but a small cogling:
You look like the kind of person who knows a bargain when they see it. No, don’t be modest now - I’ll bet you’re an extremely savvy shopper! Whether it’s in the meat space or online, you’re always more than likely to come out on top in that age old ‘Retail VS Consumer’ battle, I can tell!
But did you know about this bargain? For one week, you’ll be able to purchase and download the Gears of War 2 All Fronts Collection map pack for a measly sum of MS Points, and get a whopping 19 maps in return.
Epic Games has released the sixth title update for Gears of War 2, and in addition to fixes, improvements and balance changes (listed below), this new patch adds a feature called Social Matches for public multiplayer matches.
This feature allows players to jump in and out of games without disruptions (including Horde mode matches), while social matchmaking allows your entire party to join a match already in progress, or start a new match together.
That Cliff Bleszinski has been right in the middle of the videogame news spotlight for the past week for a variety of reasons, but instead of focussing on whether or not Gears of War 3 will indeed see a release in April next year, or thinking about what game the designer will end up revealing on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show, why don’t we take a super interesting tour of Epic Games, and see what kind of cool, awesome stuff the studio has lying around its offices:
Even though we’re still waiting for the officially official announcement from Epic, reports regarding Gears of War 3’s gameplay and mission details have already begun to surface, with talk of underwater missions, new additions to gameplay that will change the series’ cover mechanic, and a mech suit.
These details come from Edge Online, so they’re not to be sneezed at, and were provided by a mysterious ‘US publishing source’ – the same source who let the word out that Gears of War 3 would release in April of 2011.
This week’s Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week concerns price reductions on a variety of Gears of War Xbox LIVE Avatar items, which includes the COG Armour and Helmet for males and females, because the COG are all about equality.
Go get yourself some Avatar armour now!
Epic has announced that it will be hosting a special Gears of War 2 online event in the run-up to Valentine’s Day on February 14th, featuring double-XP for all participants for a variety of game types and activities.
Earlier in the week Capcom took many a gamer by surprise with their announcement that Gears of War protagonists, Marcus and Dom, would be available as customisable characters in the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2.
Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinksi explains how the crossover happened: “They [Capcom] contacted us about the cameo and we said ‘heck yeah.’ We’re mutual fans of each other’s work and crossovers are darned cool so we sent over the Marcus and Dom models for implementation.”
Yesterday during Capcom’s Xbox event the publisher announced that Gears of Wars protagonists, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, would be appearing in the upcoming action adventure game Lost Planet 2.
Now Capcom has confirmed that Marcus and Dom will be customisable characters in the game. See the two of them in action below, taking on a large Akrid in the snow in this Gears of War/Lost Planet crossover trailer:
During Capcom’s Xbox event earlier today, it was announced that Gears of War protagonists, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, would be appearing in the publisher’s upcoming action adventure game Lost Planet 2, most likely as exclusive downloadable content, or specially included character skins for cooperative play.
Well, that’s what we thought anyway…
Cliff Bleszinski has been working in game development for quite some time, starting out with the release of his first game in 1991, an adventure game by the name of ‘The Palace of Deceit: Dragon’s Plight,’ before moving onto designing games that are arguably more well known, such as Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and then Gears of War 1 and 2.
Throughout this time, Bleszinski has played a ton of videogames made by other developers, some of which have even had an affect on the games he’s worked on, as well as found a special place in his heart.
Speaking to Industry Gamers, Bleszinski has listed his top ten (well, twelve) favourite games, which are as follows:
Gears of War 2 recently received its fifth (!) title update, bringing with it a number of improvements, exploit fixes and general fixes to further smoothen out any issues you currently have with the game. You can read through a list of those fixes a little further below.
Additionally, Epic announced that they’ll be hosting another double XP event weekend, beginning on the morning of October 30th (this Friday), giving you the chance to earn double the normal amount of experience points in competitive multiplayer and Horde modes.
Epic hasn’t forgotten about Halloween, either, and will be making changes to Horde mode to make it “appropriately ‘scary’ for Halloween.” Their plans sound insane. From the post:
After a bit of a rumour flair-up, Epic have confirmed that a ‘Game of the Year Edition’ of Gears of War 2 will be heading out to stores on September 1st (next week), which comprises Gears of War 2 (the game), as well as all of the downloadable content (DLC) currently available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace (i.e. a lot).
