[Update] Added a few awesome Portal 2 screenshots below. [Update]

Valve Software’s Gabe Newell dropped a bit of a bomb during Sony’s E3 2010 press conference this past week by announcing that the recently delayed Portal 2 would be showing up on the PlayStation 3 on the launch of the first-person puzzle game.

In addition, and thanks to continued support for the game through the integration of the developer’s Steamworks technology, Portal 2 on the PS3 would be the “best console version of the game.”

Bold words indeed, especially if those words sideline the Xbox 360 version of Portal 2.

Speaking to videogame consumer site 1Up, head of Valve Software Gabe Newell has made the not inconsiderable statement that the developer’s upcoming and recently announced Portal 2 is “the best game we’ve ever done.”

If you take into consideration that this is the company that has brought us games from the Half-Life franchise, the Left 4 Dead franchise, and games such as Team Fortress 2 and the original Portal, this is one lofty comment.

Newell discussed expectations for Portal 2, after the original games stratospheric reception, and how the game may be received by fans:
