The giant robot action game from Namco Bandai and From Software, Armored Core V, recently received a formal release date and gamers looking to scratch the itch of intense mech-based combat can look forward to late March for their jollies.
You haven’t heard of Armored Core V? Let’s put that right with a host of screenshots and trailers to get us all up to speed!
Last week I posted an article highlighting the fact that four free Dark Souls dynamic themes were available on the Japanese PlayStation Store. Today five more dynamic themes have been added to the Store and are now available to download along with last week’s offerings.
If you’re a Dark Souls fan with a Japanese PSN account then it’s time to head on over to the Japanese PlayStation Store and download four free dynamic themes which were published today.
The dynamic themes each represent a different Covenant found in the game: Way of White, Darkwraith, Princess’s Guard, and Warrior of Sunlight.
The Japanese version of Dark Souls has been sitting at v1.05 for a while now, but those of us in Western territories have had to wait a week or two longer to receive the much-needed changes and fixes From Software has introduced via the latest patch.
The patch went live yesterday for both PS3 and Xbox 360, and weighs in at 11 MB and 4 MB respectively. From Software has made numerous changes to improve the game’s balance and fixed some rather severe glitches such as the one which allowed players to obtain infinite souls.
If you’re a regular visitor to El33tonline you’ll have noticed that I’m more than a little fond of Dark Souls. From Software’s follow-up to the innovative Demon’s Souls is one of those few games which place you firmly in control of your destiny and offers one of the most addictive gameplay experiences around.
Dark Souls is a game that will consume you if you give it half a chance. This fantasy action RPG is From Software’s follow-up to 2009’s cult classic Demon’s Souls, and is just as addictive and deep as its predecessor, if not more so. Whereas Demon’s Souls was a PS3 exclusive, Dark Souls appears on both PS3 and Xbox 360 – giving the game a much broader audience than its forbearer.

Don’t be surprised if you’re prompted to install a patch when you first boot up Dark Souls next week. The game was released on September 22nd in Japan, and is already on version 1.03 following user complaints regarding freezing issues and certain NPCs disappearing unexpectedly.
Dark Souls is a PS3 exclusive over there, so it’s possible that these issues don’t pertain to the Xbox 360 build which will be available in the West starting from October 4th.
As if Dark Souls wasn’t challenging enough, players of the Japanese version released exclusively on PlayStation 3 last Thursday have had to tackle the game without any of its ameliorating co-op elements due to a number of bugs which caused freezing issues during online play.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who was taken aback by the callous words of Boldwin, the first blacksmith you encounter in the Nexus in Demon’s Souls, and when he tells you to “come back alive” when leaving for another adventure, you’d be mistaken for thinking that he actually cares about your wellbeing.
Nope. The only reason he wants you to keep on living is because he “needs your business.” Very heartless, but incredibly funny, every time.
With the release of the latest set of screenshots for Dark Souls, the successor (but not sequel) to Demon’s Souls, have we managed to glimpse a look at the blacksmith that will replace Boldwin to continue the insults? Perhaps:
See what other glimmers of information you’re able to scrape together, true or not, from these new Dark Souls screenshots, all of which look very tasty indeed:
If you’ve played Demon’s Souls you’ll know that developers From Software have a talent for designing some pretty awesome-looking weapons, armour and shields. The “spiritual successor” to this game - Dark Souls - will undoubtedly also feature dozens of incredible new implements of war to arm your demon-slayer with.

When developer From Software first announced Dark Souls and observed that its next action RPG would be as challenging as Demon’s Souls, fans of that game cheered at the notion of diving headlong into another immensely immersive, demanding and ultimately rewarding fantasy experience.
By the looks of the latest gameplay videos sneaking out of E3 2011 this week, From Software definitely isn’t kidding about the difficulty as Dark Souls seems to be every bit as taxing as its predecessor.
The latest screenshots (both in-game and CG) also allude to nothing less than an epic game world:
E3 2011 may only be starting next week but there’s already plenty of incredible content being brought to light in the days ticking down to this massive event.
The latest official E3 trailer to make our jaws drop is for the oh-so-lovely Dark Souls. If this trailer doesn’t make your eyes pop then you’ve become a cold, jaded video gamer my friend.
The internet has been buzzing with Dark Souls news ever since Namco Bandai held a press event in Dubai a couple of days ago, and here at El33tonline we feel it is our moral duty to bring every fresh facet of this awesome-looking action RPG to your attention.
If you’ve been looking through El33tonline’s extensive coverage of Dark Souls, you’ll know by now that we’re intensely looking forward to this next action RPG epic in development at From Software.
Why, just the other day a brand new gameplay trailer for Dark Souls was released and a release month announced, and if you didn’t know, those squeals of joy you heard were from us as we eagerly absorbed brand new details and imagery from the game.
Now, publisher Namco Bandai and From Software have released a hefty batch of Dark Souls screenshots and artwork to further thrill and delight us.
Enjoy:
[Update] While Dark Souls has been confirmed to be releasing in October in the West, the game will launch in Japan in September, exclusive to the PlayStation 3 (the West gets it on PS3 and Xbox 360.)
Additionally, more information on a collector’s edition of Dark Souls will be revealed soon as Namco Bandai has recorded ‘excellent’ pre-order numbers for the title.
