Now that we know which games and downloadable content performed the best over the PlayStation Network in terms of sales last year, a list of top-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games for 2011 has recently been published, revealing Ubisoft’s From Dust and Microsoft’s Full House Poker as the leaders by revenue and unit sales, respectively.
This week’s massive US PlayStation Store update is indicative of the fact that we’re fast approaching that awesome time of year when great games rain down on us in an unending spate.
There are six demos to download this week (if you’ve got the bandwidth to spare) including the hotly anticipated samples for Fifa 12 and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. I’ve tried out the former, and after receiving a brief tutorial on the new defence system, I was enjoying a fast-paced game of football featuring a completely new physics engine which made collisions between players feel far more realistic.
From Dust is a downloadable title from Ubisoft, a game that features tribal inhabitants using magical abilities to affect and sculpt the earth around them.
The game arrived on Xbox LIVE Arcade in July, and did well enough to top the Xbox LIVE activity list for its launch week as the top Xbox LIVE Arcade title.
From Dust is a bit hard to classify as anything other than a ‘god game.’ A nomadic tribe wearing wooden masks is in search of their ancestors. To aid them in their search they create the Breath, you. The Breath can manipulate elements in the world, such as water, sand and lava to help the tribe trace their ancestors. As the tribe gains more knowledge of their past, they become more powerful and in turn make the Breath more powerful.

There’s hardly a single change in the list of Top Twenty most played games over Xbox LIVE compared to the week previous, with only a bit of shuffling going on in the last five entries as Mortal Kombat is relegated to the bottom of the chart.
What about the top of the chart, you ask? Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are still bullying Halo: Reach, FIFA 11 and Grand Theft Auto IV, so it’s simply business as usual.
There has been a shake-up in the list of best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade titles with the release of From Dust last week, as well as a few minor changes in the list of top-selling Xbox LIVE Indie games and the activity chart for Games For Windows LIVE.
But not much.
The full global list of top played Xbox Live games, top-selling XBLA and Xbox Indie Games and most played Games For Windows LIVE games follows below, all based on unique users and full versions purchased:
Available now on Xbox LIVE Arcade is the long (long) awaited next game from Eric Chahi (Another World/Out of This World and Heart of Darkness), that Ubisoft has in the past described as the “spiritual heir to Populous.”
Titled ‘From Dust,’ the game tasks players with taking on the role of nature itself by using different elements (including soil, water and lava) to control the way the world around you is formed.
We’ve included the game’s luscious launch trailer below, as well as a smattering of screenshots (with the official description and pricing information) to help better explain the beautiful world of From Dust.
If you hadn’t guessed, it’s difficult to explain:
It’s being reported that the PC version of From Dust has been delayed.
From Dust is the upcoming downloadable title from Ubisoft, a game that features tribal inhabitants using magical abilities to affect and sculpt the earth around them.
Summer of Arcade 2011 kicks off on July 20th on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and today Xbox frontman Major Nelson has announced the release schedule for the games included in this year’s promotion, with titles such as Bastion, From Dust and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet dated.
Here’s the full five-part list:
During last year’s E3 game convention the world got its first glimpses at (and information on) the next project from legendary developer Eric Chahi (he of Another World/Out of This World and Heart of Darkness).
Codenamed ‘Project Dust,’ the title has since been given the name ‘From Dust,’ a wondrous looking game that features tribal inhabitants using magical abilities to affect and sculpt the earth around them – from the looks of the first trailer and an interview with Chahi himself, From Dust is very reminiscent of Populous and Black and White, both classic games in their own right.
To allow us to get even more glimpses at From Dust a set of brand new screenshots has been released showcasing the game’s incredible and iconic visual style:
