In my searches for Friday Fr33bies I have come across a few really weird games. But when you have a multiplayer platform game where one random player is a level designer then things get a little weirder. Oh, and you are all mice trying to get home with the cheese.
In another classic example of less being more, our Friday Freebie today is another game with only three buttons. Dino Run has been around for a long time, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve its time in the sun.
In fact, since the destruction of earth is imminent a bit of sunshine will it good!
Have you ever heard of a guy named Notch (aka Markus Persson)? He made a small little game called Minecraft. He then sold it before it was released and made, like, a gazillion bucks! He then got into legal fights with Bethesda, tried to help Tim Schafer make Psychonauts 2 and named his next game 0x10c (no, I do not know how to pronounce that either).
Before Minecraft made him his millions, however, Notch made a little game called Breaking the Tower. The game is available on the Mojang website for the sweet price of your time, and nothing else.
Not everyone is athletic. Some of us are not blessed with Usain Bolt’s speed or Maria Sharapova’s grace. But while we will probably never make it to the biggest arenas in sport, we can sure make it to the internet (you reading this is testament to that!).
So this week I am sharing with you a sporting event that consists of a single event: the sprint. You are Qwop - the sole representative of a small nation at the Olympics. It would appear as though the moment is a bit too big for Qwop as he lost his motor skills.
There was a time in my life that I could not get enough of Star Control 2. Creating massive fleets and conquering the known universe was all I lived for, but then newer and supposedly better games came along and Star Control faded from view.
Then in the early 2000’s, Star Control 2’s source code was released and we subsequently were introduced to a little game called ‘The Ur-Quan Masters.’ This is a game based on the source code and is totally free! So we are faced with the epitome of a Friday Freebie: a great free game that will entangle you for hours!
It’s time for another bit of time wasting and since nobody (or at least most of us) is working today, why not spend it playing Monkey Lander?
I am amazed at the level of quality available in the games people are just giving away for free on the internet. Some big name publishers and developers can learn a lesson or two from these hard working people who slave away just to give you a cool free game.
Point in case this week: Cephalopods Co-Op Cottage Defence.
Oh, how I wonder where to putt to next! How I wonder what will happen next! How wonderful this game is! These are some of the wonders running through my head while I was playing this very simple little game in our Friday Fr33bie this week. As is so often the case, it is a flash based web game! Wonderputt is its name, and wonder is its game!
This week’s Friday Freebie is a great example of the popular ‘free-to-play’ games available out there. EA is really pushing this genre hard and I am sure it makes them loads of money. The principal is simple: give the user just enough free stuff to get them hooked, and then nail them for the extra goodies. (Such cynicism, tut tut! - Ed)
Let me start by saying I am still playing Entanglement, my last Friday Fr33bie recommendation, and that is only because a mate of mine scored 365 points! I do not take to losing easily. So I decided to rather share this week’s game because you do not keep score and you do not get to brag about it!
I hope you don’t have anything special planned for today. If you have any meetings you should cancel them. If you have any deadlines you should postpone them. If you have nothing to do then you are in luck! Our Friday Fr33bie is a true gem!
This week in Oltman’s Friday Freebie we have a real treat for you guys! It’s a title that has been out for quite a while, but I only recently discovered and thanks to its fame and fortunes thus far we will soon see it release on Xbox LIVE Arcade! I love it when the little guys makes it in the big leagues.
It’s that time of the week again! I have just emerged from another deep search for great free games on the web, and today’s is a quality example of what we are looking for. We move back into casual gaming land with a title that is super simple and amazingly difficult at the same time.
This week we stray a little bit from our previous PC freebies. Not because the PC does not have more great free games, but because a free game on a console is such a rarity and deserves some attention. Doritos Crash Course is one such gem, and unlike a lot of other free games, this one is actually rather good.
I noticed that all three previous Friday Fr33bies started with the letter C. In fear of making it look like I am going alphabetically down a list I downloaded from the internet, I jumped a few down to M.
My Dear Boss is another classic game hosted by Armor Games. These guys are like poison on a Friday, and no work can be done while access to them is available!
