Who doesn’t remember spending way too much time and money in videogame arcades in the late eighties and early nineties, playing classic games like Capcom’s hit side-scrolling brawler, Final Fight?

You haven’t played Final Fight?!

Well, at least you played Capcom’s side-scrolling fantasy-based action game, Magic Sword, right?

You haven’t played Magic Sword either?!

Perhaps it’s time we spoke a little bit about Final Fight: Double Impact, then.

The combined efforts of Halo 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Fifa 10 and Call of Duty: World at War, cannot, I repeat, cannot make a dent on the popularity of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as the first-person shooter set in contemporary times of conflict is again the No. 1 most played game on Xbox LIVE this week.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerInterestingly (although not surprisingly), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has steadily been losing ground on the chart, now sitting at No. 9 on the listing from No. 6 last week. The prince has been crowned and the old king is scampering away…

Last week’s new Xbox LIVE Arcade game, After Burner Climax, is the No. 1 best selling XBLA game, followed by games for Game Room and the excellent Final Fight: Double Impact, while the sales chart for Xbox LIVE Indie titles is dominated by Baby Maker Extreme, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Yet Another Zombie Defense.

The full global list of top played Xbox Live games, top selling XBLA games and Xbox Indie Games follows below, all based on unique users and full versions purchased (now including the full top 20):

After all these weeks, and some extremely tough competition, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has simply shrugged off the pretenders to the throne, including Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the two-and-a-half-year old Halo 3, and remains the No. 1 most played Xbox 360 game on Xbox LIVE.

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerWho, or indeed what, can stop Modern Warfare 2 now? It’s looking like only the full release of Halo: Reach (it’s doubtful that the multiplayer beta would be able to pull enough numbers) at the end of the year will be able to upset this ‘King of LIVE.’

The top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade title this week is the newly released Final Fight: Double Impact, followed by games for Game Room at No. 2 and Toy Soldiers at No. 3.

As for best selling Xbox Indie Games, an old favourite, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1, shows up at No. 1, while Yet Another Zombie Defense settles in at No. 2 and Baby Maker Extreme sits at No. 3.
