With E3 2012 less than a month away, there’s plenty of exciting E3-related news issuing forth from various publishers and developers that significantly raises our expectations and anticipation levels for the event. Square Enix recently revealed its E3 line-up and once again Final Fantasy Versus XIII - a game that was unveiled at E3 2006 - is the most significant no-show.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced all the way back at E3 2006 yet the game still looks to be a long way off. Despite what its title may suggest, FF Versus XIII is more akin to the Kingdom Hearts series in terms of gameplay, featuring action RPG elements rather than the “active time battle” system used in the main Final Fantasy games.

This year’s gamescom should have plenty of awesome titles on display, including the likes of Uncharted 3, Journey, Batman: Arkham City, Resistance 3, Gears of War 3, Forza 4, FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3. That’s an unprecedented number of triple A games starting with ‘3!’

Unfortunately, there’s always bound to be some sweet-looking games left off of the itinerary at gamescom, and this year will be no different. I’ve compiled a list of five titles that are looking epic but are unlikely to be shown at the event. Thankfully, four of these are unreleased Japanese titles that may very well make it to the Tokyo Game Show next month, so we shouldn’t have to wait long to gorge ourselves on new footage of these promising titles, even if some of them are still far out to sea in relation to our Western shores.

Do you remember the Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer that emerged on the ‘net following Square Enix’s massive event a week ago? The trailer that Tom expertly dissected in El33tonline’s first podcast of 2011? The trailer that was incredibly impressive but was a little on the low quality side?

Yeah. That trailer!

Well, Square Enix has gone and released a much better quality version of that video… and officially, too!

When the action gets intense, you can actually make out what’s going on this time so get slack-jawed all over again and catch the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer below:

After over a year’s absence, the El33tonline podcast returns in 2011 to rattle your eardrums with videogame talk of the highest qual… of some quality!

In the first of our weekly series of podcasts going forward, I attend to hosting duties and am joined by El33tonline team member and contributor Tom, and none other than El33tonline’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa!

Headphones During the podcast, we discuss our fondness (and release dates) for Mortal Kombat, Duke Nukem Forever, Stacking, and Nintendo’s 3DS, and we air our opinions on news of the region-locked 3DS.

Also in the podcast, Tom helps us dissect the batch of recent Final Fantasy-related news and talks about Faery: Legends of Avalon, while Lisa tells us about her experiences with DC Universe Online, Mass Effect 2 and Get Fit With Mel B for PS3, as well as Michael Jackson: The Experience for Wii.

We then close out with news on two new community events happening here on El33tonline - El33t M33ts and the PS3 Trophy Hunter Competition!

If I do say so myself, this isn’t a bad bit of audio to kick off the year, so if you enjoy absorbing your gaming news through your ears instead of your eyes, grab the El33tonline podcast for the week of January 24th to hear everything mentioned above and much more!

Following Square Enix’s massive announcement event recently, Final Fantasy fans had all kinds of reasons to get excited with enormous bundles of news emerging to get us excited for the long-running franchise all over again.

Also breaking free from the clutches of the event was a brand new trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, possibly the most anticipated game the series has been associated with in recent times due to its scarcity and vast promise. Also because it’s been confirmed to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive title.

If you want your levels of anticipation for Final Fantasy Versus XIII to skyrocket even higher, though, you can watch that new trailer below, but get it while it’s hot (and available!):

[Update] Replaced broken YouTube video with a new source - Thanks Tom! [End of Update]

During Tokyo Game Show 2010, Square Enix showed off brand new footage from both the PSP game, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and the PS3 game, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, in an all-in-one mega trailer.

Finally, that trailer has come to light after previous attempts at bringing it to the public’s eye were harshly curb-stomped by Square Enix itself.

Another part of the Final Fantasy XIII triumvirate is this title, an action RPG called Versus XIII, which forms part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII compilation, along with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

While it has been revealed that Versus XIII takes place in the same universe as regular XIII, Versus will contain an entirely separate set of characters and a different storyline as well.

Here’s the latest trailer for Versus XIII, fresh from the end of the Final Fantasy XIII demo that came with the Final Fantasy: Advent Children – Complete movie in Japan, (that’s a lot of Final Fantasy). Watch below:

New footage from both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII were revealed at Square Enix’s DKS3713 event earlier this year and, as expected, they both look amazing and ready to take over your life when they’re released. What else do you expect from a Final Fantasy game?

First up is a video for Final Fantasy XIII. Got some snacks at the ready? Settle in and enjoy!
