This week’s US PlayStation Store update doesn’t feature any big-name downloadable titles or DLC but is still worthwhile for a number of reasons. Fight Night Champion Customizable allows you to purchase a significant portion of the retail release for only a few dollars - a first for PSN. The game’s excellent Champion Mode is now available as a digital download for only $4.99, with additional modes available for purchase from the in-game store.
The mighty and epic Dragon Age 2 released around the world this past week and effortlessly claimed the top spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing, bounding in ahead of Pokemon Black and White.
It’s been almost two years since Fight Night Round 4 was released, and it’s clear EA Canada has used that time wisely to create a compelling boxing game with an excellent story mode, fantastic visuals and accessible gameplay. While the title suffers from a few technical flaws and isn’t as enjoyable once you venture outside of the story mode, it nevertheless represents a significant evolution for an EA Sports game.

As predicted, Nintendo’s dual-release of Pokemon Black and White (in the form of Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version) has cracked Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing wide open and occupies both No. 1 and No. 2 on the chart.
A brand new set of destructive Fight Night Champion screenshots have been unleashed for us to grimace over as we glimpse two fighters punching the stuffing out of each other in great detail.
Also released recently is a features video for Fight Night Champion that details something called ‘Online Gyms,’ an area of the game that will not only allow you to custom create your own boxer down to the finest detail, but will also enable you to create or join an online gym (a club, basically), where other Fight Night Champion players can assemble in order to fight in seasons and tournaments.
Major Nelson has let everybody know that an Xbox 360 demo for Fight Night Champion has just hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace, giving you a chance to get to grips with EA Sports’ new ‘Full Spectrum Punch Control’ gameplay mechanics, which the company is calling ‘revolutionary’ for boxing and fighting games.

A concrete North American release date for this realistic boxing game has also been announced, and after ogling the story-enriched, gob-smacking video for Fight Night Champion, you may just be of the opinion that this title can’t come soon enough!

The next full entry to EA’s Fight Night boxing franchise has been revealed, scheduled for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release sometime in 2011 and set to feature an innovative new singleplayer career mode, as well as an improved control scheme.
Currently known as Fight Night: Champion, the series continuation will also feature 60 to 65 boxers for you punch up, in a game that developers EA Canada assure fans will be a full new title, rather than a spin-off or add-on.
Speaking to IGN, gameplay producer on Fight Night: Champion, Brian Hayes, said of the new singleplayer career mode in the game:
