Electronic Arts LogoEA recently released its first quarter financial results, posting profits of $96 million for the period ending June 30th, up by some margin from a loss of $234 million during the same quarter last year.

Revenue was up to $815 million from $644 million last year, which represents growth of 27 percent. These solid results were due in part to the continued strong performance of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the iPad version of Scrabble, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and FIFA 10.

Electronic Arts Logo Electronic Arts has just released financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter, and despite what market analysts have been predicting, the publisher has posted some impressive results, with $30 million in profit for the quarter, in comparison to a $42 million loss during the same period last year.

Sales were up 14 percent year over year, to $979 million this quarter, too, on the back of some healthily performing franchises, as Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Army of Two: The 40th Day and Mass Effect 2 all sold one million units during the three months ending March 31st alone.

EA’ CEO John Riccitiello was no doubt chuffed with the results, commenting:

Did anyone else see this coming: another year, another FIFA game? If there is one thing we can rely on EA for, it’s to release the same game with a new digit at the end and a new hero on the cover. They do it year in and year out and still the punters buy it. They used this strategy to become a juggernaut in the industry, so no surprise that they did it again! And sure enough, this being a world cup year, they will find a way to squeeze the same game out with a “World Cup” in the title somewhere. Now imagine my surprise when I played FIFA 10 and found it to be the best sports title I have ever played, let alone the best football title! Soccer never stood a chance.
