Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerA horde of new downloadable games have been added to Xbox LIVE’s Games on Demand service (the service that allows you to download current generation Xbox 360 games to your hard drive), which provide both racing and football/soccer jollies for those of us who haven’t played them yet.

Included in the batch of games is the excellent arcade racer Burnout Revenge, another great (more realism-based) racing game, Need For Speed ProStreet, and last year’s iteration of the Fifa series, Fifa 09.

Region-specific pricing differs from place to place, so be sure to check for your region over here.

Fifa 09 Box ArtThat time of the week, when the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade ‘Deal of the Week’ is announced, has already arrived, and Major Nelson has revealed the deal to concern downloadable content for Fifa 09.

If you’re an Xbox LIVE Gold member, you’re now able to buy and download the ‘Fifa 09 Ultimate Team’ in a variety of flavours, which allows you to play what seems to be a separate (mini-)game as your favourite team, also seemingly exclusive to the Xbox 360:

EA Sports have announced that, since June 2008, gamers have played 500 million online matches with games released under their label, which represents a 175 percent increase in online play over last year, deftly highlighting “the radical shift that we’ve helped pioneer in the industry,” says EA Sports President Peter Moore.

EA Sports LogoThis number has been helped along by the 2.4 million registered online users of Madden NFL and Fifa 09 (each), while four other EA Sports titles enjoy 500 000 registered users.

Another factor that handily boosted the number of EA Sports online matches would be this year’s release of the Ultimate Team mode for Fifa 09, which EA say has “sparked the highest online activity for FIFA 09 in the lifecycle of the product.” Moore sent out a rallying cry of further encouragement by commenting:

“EA Sports is committed to providing personal access to the emotion of sports by continuing to create immersive online features, compelling new downloadable content and daily real-time stats updates.”

Those 500 million online matches, EA claim, add up to 4 billion minutes of online play since June last year.

Fifa ’09 has only just been released last week and it’s already sold 1.2 million copies across Europe. This, according to EA, makes it the fastest start in the history of the franchise. President of EA SPORTS, Peter Moore, enthused:

Fifa 09 Box Art”FIFA Soccer 09’s great kick-off is a testament to our loyal fans across Europe who simply can’t wait to get their hands on the game. FIFA Soccer 09 is EA’s best soccer offering to date featuring game modes such as Be A Pro: Seasons, 10 vs. 10 Online Team Play, FIFA 09 “Clubs” and the adidas Live Season service. This is our fastest selling FIFA game of all time and it’s rewarding to see the game so high on the list of must-have titles this holiday.”

A huge success and it hasn’t even released around the world just yet! When it does release in North America and Asia on October 14th, (Wii and Nintendo DS on October 28th), expect that sales number to rise dramatically!
