“What starts off as a routine mission to locate a corrupt executive turns into a non-stop struggle to survive as Sgt. Michael Becket comes face to face with Alma, a vengeful force growing ever more powerful.”
Isn’t that always the way?
All you want to do is walk into a building and find some executive who may have written a few bad cheques and made a few illegal deals, but when you walk into the person’s office and swivel the executive chair around, you’re instead met with the horrifying and ghoulish face of a monstrous, demonic child.
Typical!
The third iteration of Monolith’s on-and-off series of first-person shooters, FEAR, may very well be getting a full reveal very soon, as the cover image of an upcoming Spanish magazine has begun doing the rounds featuring the familiar cast and lettering from the franchise.
And yes, it looks as though the third game will indeed be called F3AR, making it even more difficult for people to spell out in full - I’ve personally long since abandoned the full F.E.A.R. name, let alone F.3.A.R.
What does that even mean?
Staff cuts at three of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s Seattle-based game development studios have been confirmed, as Monolith (FEAR), Snowblind Studios (Death Tank) and Surreal Software (The Suffering) are affected by reductions, which have been explained as efforts towards consolidation.
The moody, horror-themed first-person shooter FEAR 2 will be receiving a downloadable expansion pack entitled FEAR 2: Reborn on September 3rd, which features four additional singleplayer missions to expand on the FEAR 2 universe.
You can get a taste of this expansion pack on August 27th when a demo for the downloadable content (DLC) will be released alongside a free multiplayer mode called Slow-Mo Deathmatch, in which players need to hold on to a slow-mo powerup to rack up points.
Watch the trailer for FEAR 2: Reborn below:
FEAR 2: Project Origin, the sequel to Monolith’s excellent FEAR, has been through a lot, not least of which was changing its name late last year from just plain Project Origin, to FEAR 2: Project Origin, after Monolith reclaimed the rights to the name.
The game has also gone through a lot of changes from the first outing, now sporting more unique areas, more cunning enemies, interaction with the environment that matters and a much creepier setting.
Watch how far FEAR 2 has come below. Not for the faint of heart:
FEAR 2: Project Origin is out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 10th in the US and February 13th in the UK and Europe. You can also play the demo now on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
The good ‘ole Major Nelson has reminded everyone that the demo for the highly anticipated FEAR 2: Project Origin is now available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. From the description:
“A routine mission turns into a fight for survival when an explosion of unknown origin decimates the city and unleashes the wrath of Alma Wade, whose terrifying power threatens to surge out of control unless Special Forces Sgt. Michael Becket and his squad can find a way to destroy her.“
Creepy events ahoy as Alma wreaks havoc with the environments and your mind. FEAR 2: Project Origin will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on February 10th in the US and February 13th in the UK and Europe.
Warner Bros Interactive has announced that a single player demo for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will be available on the 22nd of January.
The demo will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network for the Xbox 360 and PS3 while PC gamers can download it through the game’s website.
The demo promises to offer a “glimpse of the action, terror and suspense of the full retail version of the game.” Players can look forward to maneuvering through bloodstained corridors and hallways from several locations in the game, fighting through various parts of the ruined Auburn city.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 13th of February.
Monolith are really proud to have their property name, F.E.A.R., under their ownership again. How proud? Proud enough to release a trailer to announce that their current project has undergone a name change, from Project Origin, to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
On top of that, the trailer features new, unseen footage from the game. It’s pretty creepy… no, you know what, it’s actually very creepy, using footage from both the original F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2. Only the strong-of-bowel should click to watch. ‘Enjoy’.
The upcoming horror shooter from veteran developer Monolith, Project Origin, has had a name change for the better - it’s now to be known as F.E.A.R. 2, now the official sequel to the first game in the series, F.E.A.R., also developed by Monolith. Confused? You should be.
In 2005, Monolith released an action horror shooter called F.E.A.R., published under the Vivendi/Sierra label who had acquired Monolith, thus owning all of their franchise branding, including the name, F.E.A.R. Monolith was then acquired by Warner Bros. This meant that, while Monolith didn’t own the rights to the F.E.A.R. brand, they did own the intellectual property as far as characters and plot were concerned. As a result, Monolith began work on a ‘spiritual’ sequel to the original F.E.A.R., but decided to name it Project Origin (a name chosen by the F.E.A.R. community), while Vivendi/Sierra began work on ‘real’ sequel, F.E.A.R. 2.
