Despite the fact that the singleplayer portion of Ubisoft’s open-world shooter still largely remains a mystery, a gigantic collection of details recently went live for the multiplayer of Far Cry 3 with copious amounts of crushing gameplay footage, a smattering of juicy screenshots and a handful of in-depth developer interviews.
Far Cry 3 may only be due for release in September, but you can find out about the game’s awesome multiplayer features now, including the ‘Battle Cry,’ the focus on team play, the cinematic kill cam, the Firestorm mode, end of mission cinemas and much, much more:
Open-world first-person shooters aren’t too common these days so Far Cry 3 will be a welcome opportunity to explore a chain of tropical islands and enjoy dynamic combat while dealing with a few crazed individuals whose brains have been baked by the unrelenting sun.
With the release of that haunting trailer for Far Cry 3 yesterday, Ubisoft has opened the floodgates for the publisher’s open-world action game with news of an early September release date and a big batch of incredible, action-packed screenshots.

We saw the extraordinarily short teaser trailer for Far Cry 3 yesterday, but Ubisoft has today released the full-length CG video showing a trio of explorers who happen upon an uncharted island.
What’s on the island? Madness.
Also: Lots of curse words. Madness will do that to you.
If you want to hear a crazed lunatic scream that he wants to be shot, using vile language to make the bizarre request, then you’ve certainly come to the right place because Ubisoft has just released a very teaserly trailer for Far Cry 3 containing this very sequence of events.
The video is snipped from a full reveal trailer for Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world first-person action game, but until February 16th (this Thursday), you’ll have to be content with this 16-second clip:
Not content to let THQ, Microsoft and Sony steal the show at E3 2011 over the week of June 6th, Ubisoft came out swinging with some very strong announcements and impressive demonstrations of the publisher’s upcoming games.
These announcements included the reveal of new Far Cry and Brothers in Arms games, plus further looks at titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Rayman Origins and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
With the welcome announcement that Far Cry 3 is indeed in development at Ubisoft’s trustworthy Montreal studio, a fantastic set of debut screenshots and art have emerged with looks at the lush, beautiful and seemingly hostile game world.
We’ve included a gameplay walkthrough video from E3 2011, too, so sick back and enjoy your first proper looks at Far Cry 3:
[Update] Added the debut trailer for Far Cry 3. [End of Update]
The Far Cry series of first-person shooters has a very strange heritage, beginning life as an exciting jungle-based action game with open mission paths and clever AI (created by Crytek) before being run into the ground with a multitude of console ports and spin-offs, courtesy of Ubisoft.
In 2009, and after claiming the license, Ubisoft released Far Cry 2, a critical and commercial success with an altogether different take on the franchise but with a similar theme insofar as you could approach objectives in a variety of interesting ways, with new tools at your disposal thanks to newer technology.
Now at E3 2011, Ubisoft has confirmed rumours by formally announcing that that Far Cry 3 is in development, and is scheduled for a multiplatform release in 2012.
