Fable III is a great action RPG from Lionhead Studios and has already been supported with no less than two pieces of downloadable content (DLC) to bring brand new adventures to those of you entrenched in the lore of Albion.
You can read over El33tonline’s review of Fable III to see why the game is so grand, and also be sure to pore over our review of the latest DLC, Traitor’s Keep, to discover what else has been added since the game’s release last year.
Say… hasn’t El33tonline been running a competition to win Fable III and Traitor’s Keep? We surely have, and we’ve got the winners of the games and the DLC!
Downloadable content (DLC) is here to stay, we should just make our peace and get on with life, whether we like it or not. Luckily some DLC is good enough that you don’t have to make peace with it, but you can actually embrace it, hold it and pet it and love it and cuddle it and squeeze it… and then people can call you Elvira. Yes, some DLC is worth it.
I am not talking about day 1 DLC that is a few kilobytes in size, which means you pay for stuff that’s already on the disc you just bought. No, these unlocks are highway robbery. I am talking about DLC like Traitor’s Keep for Fable 3. This is DLC that you actually get something worth your while. Starting off, you actually get around 860mb of data. That has to count towards something, right?

Over the course of the Microsoft Showcase event today, a solid release date was announced for the recently revealed Halo: Reach ‘Defiant Map Pack,’ while a brand new set of downloadable content was also unveiled for Lionhead’s epic action RPG, Fable III.
In general, the Fable series of action RPGs from developer Lionhead Studios and Microsoft have gone from strength to strength, each introducing key new elements that improve the new iteration over and above the previous one.
Fable III, while still wholly enjoyable and excellent overall, left a few critics cold and some gamers had more than a few complaints about how the developer handled the rush towards the end-game, while bugs shipping with the completed product (but then patched) mired the experience, too.
Lionhead’s Fable III launched itself into the big, big world of videogames at the end of October to a bit of a mixed reception. Some franchise fans were a tad disappointed with a few of the game’s nonsensical restrictions, while others (like El33tonline’s Oltman) thoroughly enjoyed it.
But most of all, players of Fable III discovered the game to be… kinda buggy, with tales of woe coming in from all corners of the gaming world speaking of game-stopping errors and other peculiarities. In an effort to fix some of these issues, Lionhead has recently deployed an update for Fable III, and perhaps silence some of the naysayers.
The full list of patch notes for Fable III follows below:
The new Understone Quest Pack for Fable III is now available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 400 MS Points.
You’ll be able to access three unique experiences with the add-on, including journeying through the mysterious Understone town. You’ll also be able to own new houses and stalls as well as conquer new creatures.
Fable 3 is the brainchild of Peter Molyneux, an eccentric game designer with a penchant for overhyping his games. The man is a legend though, with games such as Magic Carpet, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper and Black and White under his belt. He was also responsible for the amazing (and probably totally unrealistic) Milo demo for the new Kinect controller. Peter promised that Fable 3 would not suck. He also promised that it would actually be great. As it turns out, he was not far off.
The kingdom is in peril. The King of Albion does not seem to be a nice man, unlike the previous king, the hero from Fable 2. He is an oppressor of his people. His people have had enough. They need a hero. As the younger sibling of the king, the people turn to you to usurp the throne, take over from your older brother and save the kingdom! If only it was all that easy.

Following the release of the NPD October sales report, Microsoft was quick to reveal a few stats of their own.
Microsoft revealed that the Xbox 360 sold 325 000 units, making it the best-selling console in October. The Xbox 360 was the only system to increase unit sales year-on-year. The publisher also announced that the Xbox 360 is the best-selling console in the US so far in 2010 with 3.5 million units sold to date.
Microsoft also revealed that Fable III sold 580 000 copies to claim second place on the Top 10 Games chart, while Halo: Reach sold 315 000 copies to claim sixth place.
The NPD Group has just released its sales report of the videogame industry in the US for the month of October, and it shows how the industry’s numbers slipped even further despite NBA 2K11 dominating the software side of things. Overall industry sales were down 4% to $1.07 billion, although software sales were boosted 6% largely due to NBA 2K11.
The main concern was the hardware sales which shrunk a ghastly 26% to $280 million. The console and handheld market suffered a large blow, with the DS remaining on top of the hardware sales chart while the Xbox 360 was the only system to record year-on-year growth.
Now that Lionhead and Microsoft’s Fable III has been available in the wild for a suitable amount of time, it’s been announced that downloadable content (DLC) will soon become available for the epic action RPG.
Releasing next week, an add-on called the ‘Understone Quest Pack’ will hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace in an effort to provide players with even more adventures to overcome, while continuing to expand the sprawling land and lore of Albion.
The football mad populace comprising ‘the UK’ has this week turned out in droves to purchase SEGA’s latest management simulation title, Football Manager 2011, thus ensuring the game a place atop Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing ahead of big hitters FIFA 11 and Fable III.
This is the second PC-exclusive title to hit the No. 1 spot on the chart in 2010, following StarCraft II’s appearance earlier this year.
Despite the release of this interloper, FIFA 11 (sales down 24%) is a non-mover at No. 2 this week, but Fable III (sales down 64%) shifts from No. 1 to No. 3.
Fable III mounted a revolution this past week and stormed the castles of FIFA 11 and Fallout: New Vegas to break Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart free from their tyrannical reign!
…
That’s just a fancy way of saying that Fable III is No. 1 on the UK Software Sales listing for this past week, outperforming FIFA 11 and Fallout: New Vegas to claim the top spot.
From a post on Lionhead’s blog page:
“Tomorrow Fable III comes out in the USA, followed by Europe this coming Friday. Because we haven’t really spoken about LIVE Co-Op, we got Ted and Lewis in front of a camera last week to show off this new and exciting feature in Fable III…
“It’s not really a video diary because we didn’t have enough time to polish it, but hopefully it demonstrates Live Co-op well!”
Well, that takes care of my bit (except I should add that couch co-op is also confirmed in the video). Take it away, ‘not a video diary from Ted and Lewis’:
