EA and Bioware recently officially announced the existence of the Dragon Age: Origins retail-bound expansion pack, The Awakening, after rumours of the add-on began mounting over the holidays.

The Awakening will once again take on the role a Grey Warden, this time trying to restore an order of legendary warriors, while being tasked with discovering secrets surrounding the threat of the Darkspawn.

Players will also battle new enemies and monsters, including the “Inferno Golem and Spectral Dragon,” as well as another mysterious enemy going by the name of the “Architect.”

Ubisoft recently announced that an expansion to Anno 1404, their acclaimed real-time strategy and simulation game, will be arriving in EMEA (Europe, Middle-East and Africa) territories in February next year, and will this time take players to Venice while adding a much requested online multiplayer mode.

Marketing director of EMEA at Ubisoft, John Parkes said of the expansion: “With Anno 1404 Venice we are proud to bring a whole new dimension to gamers by letting them experience new multiplayer challenges online with their friends.

“We’re confident that this add-on will please fans of the series as well as newcomers to the franchise.”

EA Sports Active BoxshotEA has announced that EA Sports Active has sold over 600 000 units worldwide at retail in less than two weeks. EA’s new virtual fitness product hit shelves across North America on the 19th of May and worldwide on the 22nd of May.

Developed exclusively for the Wii, EA Sports Active offers the benefits of a personal trainer in your own along with customizable workouts.

EA also revealed that a new expansion pack for the game will be available “this holiday season.” The expansion pack is said to take the workout to the next level by adding more challenge and variety, as well as 30 new activities and exercises designed to target upper and lower body and cardio.

Konami Digital Entertainment has announced an expansion pack to Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear 4’s multiplayer component, entitled ‘Gene Expansion.’

Metal Gear OnlineThe expansion pack features new characters, such as Meryl and Johnny from Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as a new Survival mode where players need to stay alive as long as possible against increasingly overwhelming challenges.

A ‘Reward Shop’ has also been added to trade points for new equipment, while players are now able to create female soldiers as their custom character.

New maps also feature in the expansion with the likes of ‘Coppertown Conflict’ featuring wide open streets, ‘Tube of Tombs’ comprising underground, labyrinthine passages and lastly ‘Virtuous Vistas,’ including locations ideal for mid- to long-range combat.

Gene Expansion will be made available on Thursday, the 17th of July, at a price of 9.99 Euro.

 

The word on the street is that Q-games are creating an expansion for popular PlayStation Network title PixelJunk Monsters. PixelJunk Monsters began scaring PS3s in late January this year.

A Q-Games employee responded as follows to a Kotaku reader’s query about a sequel or expansion, “We are really enjoying the feedback from people about Monsters, it seems to have really hit a sweet spot. There should be some news about an expansion pack over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.”
