Namco Bandai and Ninja Theory’s epic action adventure game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, will soon get a set of playable downloadable content (DLC) to extend the adventures and fiction of the excellent game… but you won’t be playing as central protagonists Monkey or Trip this time around.
Instead, you’ll take control of Pigsy, the “comical porcine character known for his one-line zingers and questionable hygiene,” in a DLC episode called “Pigsy’s Perfect 10.”

An official description fills us in on the setup for this oddly named DLC:
Every once in a while I get surprised whilst reviewing a game. The truly epic games have such huge hype building up to their release that it’s difficult for the game to live up to the expectation created. By the time it releases you have heard and seen so much of the game that to some degree the content and mechanics are almost dated before you have even ripped open the packaging. By now you are surely wondering where my surprise was with Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It started subtly as I escaped the slaver ship in the opening mission and continued to build as the adventure unfolded. I was waiting to tire of the characters, puzzles or plot and to my surprise I never did.

Even in the face of a host of debut game releases all jockeying for position and aiming to become No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this week, and despite a 63% sales decrease over the week previous, FIFA 11 has managed to comfortably retain the top spot on the chart, importantly ahead of football rival Pro Evolution Soccer 2011.
Today is finally the day that we see the release of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, a brand new and stunning-looking action adventure game from Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) and Namco Bandai.
Now available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the UK, Europe and South Africa, Enslaved tells the epic saga of protagonists Monkey and Trip as they journey across a futuristic wasteland while being hunted down by merciless drones and colossal robotic creatures.
Way to be late to the party, Xbox LIVE Marketplace! This demo for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was released on the PlayStation Network, like, over a week ago! And you’re only getting it now? That’s totally not cool!
It’s alright, though. I still like you.
In the past, we here at El33tonline may have claimed that this or that content update for the PlayStation Store was ‘the biggest’ or ‘the best,’ or even ‘the greatest of all time.’
No. I’m going to come clean here and say that this was all false lip service. We deceived you, fair reader, and for this we are sorry.
But, how could we have known to reserve our praise of bounteous content updates until today, and this moment? Because it turns out that this week’s PlayStation Store content update for US users is by far the most amazing revision to the service we’ve ever seen!
There’s far, far too much content to discuss, but highlights include the addition of DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, demos for DJ Hero 2 and Enslaved, PSOne Import games Cho Aniki and Gaia Seed, free DLC for Dead Rising 2, DLC for Red Dead Redemption, a new set of PlayStation Plus content… plus much more!

On Wednesday, a demo for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West hit the European PlayStation Store, lending credence to that age old adage:
“If European gamers wait patiently for many, many, many years, they will eventually get something before North Americans. Maybe.”
But don’t worry PlayStation 3 gamers in North America! You’ll get the demo soon!
Psst! Hey! Psst! You there! Pssssssst!
Oh hey, hi, hello! I couldn’t help but notice that you looked like you needed… something. Maybe a little something different from your average, everyday ‘stuff.’ Well, I tell ya’, I got just the thing.
We just got in an unlimited, yes I said unlimited, supply of something called ‘Enslaved.’ Don’t be shy now, the first hit is for free – it’s a ‘demo’ product, you see. All you need to do is visit our little Store around the corner here, and pick yourself up a free copy.
In the past, we’ve seen game companies try and shovel off their games by releasing trailers that they think are beautiful cinematic masterpieces… only they’re filled with robotic animations, bad lip-syncing and dreadful effects.
As game technology gets better (with games like Uncharted, Killzone 2 and Halo: Reach), these cinematic trailers are more true to their namesake, and when the deep, gravely voice starts talking about ‘an adventure you’ll never forget,’ you actually start to believe that what you’re watching wouldn’t be out of place on a movie screen ahead of the latest film.
This gamescom trailer for Enslaved is such as video, complete with pieces of exposition, ‘explodey’ action bits, and the obligatory slow motion parts.
All great stuff, and begging to be watched below:
Dang! Enslaved is looking mighty!
While looking over the latest screenshots for Ninja Theory’s action adventure game, and during your own personal screening of a brand new gameplay trailer, there’s a strong chance that you may just exclaim, out loud, an expletive of your choosing.
That exclamation may not be as rude as ‘Dang’ (what is?), but you’ll be impressed, nonetheless:
Namco Bandai has gone and confirmed that the Ninja Theory created and developed game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will indeed release during the beginning of October this year, despite previous confusion over the matter.
Ninja Theory and Namco Bandai’s Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, has been given a solid release date for the UK, giving PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers in the region ample time to get ready for what looks like an epic action adventure title.
The debut gameplay trailer for Enslaved focussed mostly on key protagonist Monkey as he jumped and climbed around dilapidated buildings and fought off hordes of robot enemies, but this latest trailer shifts slightly more towards the other chief character in Enslaved, Trip, who uses her technological know-how to protect herself, and help Monkey solve problems.
There’s also a healthy amount of story and gameplay footage thrown into the trailer for good measure, with great shots of ancient environments lying in a ruinous state.
It all looks beautifully done:
We already know a little bit about Ninja Theory’s upcoming Enslaved action adventure game, in which we get to play as key protagonist, Monkey, who has been forced to help the game’s other main character, Trip, as they both journey across a hostile, post-apocalyptic wasteland (infested with robots intent on the destruction of every last human alive), all in an effort to escape and return home… wherever that is.
While we’ve seen screenshots of Enslaved before, we haven’t really seen the game in motion, and with this newly released debut trailer for the game, that’s put right, as we catch glimpses of Monkey ripping robots apart, leaping from one crumbling building to another, and helping Trip traverse the environment as well.
Watch below:
Ninja Theory’s upcoming Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with robots hell-bent on the eradication of every last remaining human on the planet, but unlike games such as Fallout 3 and Gears of War, this doesn’t mean the environments have to be coated in different shades of brown and grey.
In the world of Enslaved, a post-apocalyptic setting means colour and vibrance, as towering skyscrapers and building compounds have been reclaimed by Nature… making a few adjustments here and there to make itself at home.
