“The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy,” EA’s open letter to its customers begins.
The publisher is about to reveal a new list of games that will have their online servers shut down later this year, which means we won’t be able to play their multiplayer offerings or enjoy their online features.
“The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired,” EA continues.
It’s true. Members of El33tonline have spoken to developers from around the world, and from EA in particular, and if there’s one thing that rings true it’s that these people are incredibly passionate about the games they work on.
EA’s letter continues:
One of the interesting reveals to come out this afternoon’s EA press conference in Cologne, Germany was that soccer guru and media socialite David Beckham will be bringing his girl-swooning good looks to the EA Sports Active 2 team as an ambassador for the game.
President of EA Sports Peter Moore teased the announcement by disclosing that the new team member was an athlete. A short video clip then played teasing the reveal even further by showing an athlete warming up on a field, until eventually it was revealed to be none other than David Beckham!
EA has officially announced that a full-blown sequel to the publisher’s EA Sports Active fitness product (don’t call it a game!) is in development, and will release on PlayStation 3, Wii, iPhone and iPod Touch (no mention of Xbox 360) in the Fall of this year.
